A few weeks ago I went to the Texas State Fair and saw a photographer there that had some really great mustang and other wildlife photos. As I looked at his stuff more, I noticed some of the mustangs looked an awful lot like Kigers. I asked him about his pictures and sure enough he said that they were Kigers! I was so excited, most people down here don't know what Kigers are. We had a fun chat. I told him I had Kigers and about Mari and Cali. I had my camera with me and was able to show him a few photos of Cali. After he saw Cali, he pulled me over to show me this photo of a grullo Kiger Stallion. He called him Thunderhead and said that he had seem him and another stallion (each with their own bands) and had taken pictures of them. He said they were in the Kiger HMA. Here is the picture. I was shocked when I saw this picture! I thought maybe this might be Cali's sire! Who knows for sure, but the photographer did say that all of Thunderheads babies had the same star mark on their heads, just like him. Of course, I had to have the picture! Here are some pics of Cali. Tell me what you think! Could this be Cali's daddy? It's fun to think about for sure!

Does the photographer have a website? And do you know when he was last there? I'd love to see more of his photos.

I asked if he had a website and he told me no. But I did a search on his name and found a site, but there was nothing there except a small bio. I need to send him an email to see when he was last there and when he took that photo of Thunderhead. He told me he would be there at the Texas State Fair next year. I thought, "Great! But that doesn't help me show other people these photos!" He did have some other photos that I thought were better pictures, but I had to have this one since he looked like Cali. His name is Kelsey Cain and his website is www.kelseycain.com/about.php. He also did a photo for a 2004 poster for the wild horse and burro expo. You can see that photo here www.wildhorseandburroexpo.com/store.htm. He lives in Utah and I got the idea that he goes to a lot of fairs and places like that to sell his photos. You might be able to contact him and find out where he will be next.

Your adopted mare off the Kiger was the dam right? This is a fabulous looking foal and certainly could be out of the grulla stallion. I'm not sure if this is the same stallion but there was a great grulla out there for many years. I hope this is him and he's still there. maybe Kevin and Lisa or Bobbe and Rick can tell us more.

I'll post a picture of the Grulla stallion we say repeatedly this summer. I don't think it is the same stallion. We have seen another Grulla from a distance that I think is also a stallion, but we have not been close enough for good pictures. We are trying to get to the HMA again before snow closes us out so we will keep our eyes out for him.

Your adopted mare off the Kiger was the dam right? Yes, Dianne, the mare I adopted is the dam. I couldn't have asked for a better surprise. Cali is just so great and Mari is really coming along in her training. I will email the photographer and see if he can tell me more about the picture he took, especially when he took it. Prizmbluekigers--it would be great if you were able to see him in the wild and take more pics of him. I hope he is still out there.
