The only thing I can really encourage you to do is to take her out everywhere! Get her used to trailering, ponying, etc....and expose her to a million thing! Your mare will be an awesome role model and teach Bella to take it all in stride.....We've been taking my little colt everywhere my daughter's mare goes (trail rides, horse shows, drill team practice, etc) and can't wait to take him in his first parade! Enjoy!

Balance affection with disipline...as Ceasar Milan says "Exercise, Disipline and Affection...in that order"!!

Ditto' to the above posts...I could have used Ceasar's advice 12 years ago when I brought up my first foal.

I like to do a little review of what they already know and then to put them just outside their comfort zone with something new. Then reward any close try, even the thought of the right answer, and build on that asking for more and better. If they get frustrated I go back to something they know and give them lots of praise for that before returning to the new thing. I think that a confident horse is the goal, knowing that there is a right answer and that they can find it.

Thanks everyone. I have talked to the hauler everyday and she is doing great. Hoping to be here Tuesday at the latest. I am wondering about supplements. I dont want to give her too much of anything but Im sure she will need something. I give all of mine right now the totalequinesupplements and I really love them. It says I can give to yearlings.
ANd yes, I plan to take her everywhere we go, as soon as I get a good handle on her, I'll be ponying her off of Lakota on the trails, shows, etc...she'll get exposed to A LOT really soon. I believe that just makes them a better horse once you start riding....

It does make a better horse when you start riding and I do take full advantage of my trained laid back riding horses to work with young horses.

Can't wait to see photos of you with your new girl Angel! I wouldn't worry about supplementing her just yet. Evaluate her condition when she arrives and give her time to settle into her new home and relax from the haul before you change her diet. Did her previous owner send any feed along with her or at least tell you what she is eating so you can continue with it and then gradually make any changes? Leesa
