For anyone who may be interested, we're having our first meeting this Saturday, Marysville Applebee's at 12:30.
Aside from good food, we'll discuss ways to increase adoption awareness, promotion, shows, trail rides and whatever else may be on people's minds.
Bring your happiness and appetite! (Um...and your wallet, too, cuz you'll need to buy yer food...)

Just interested to find out how this organization (club) will differ from Steens Mountain Kiger Registry (& shows) & Kiger Mestano Assoc. (& shows) and even the Pacific Wild Horse Club, which I realize is for all mustangs, not just the Kigers. Are some of the people in this club also members of the other associations, etc.? I live in Oregon, so can't make it to meeting, but just interested. I just sold my last Kiger in June, she was Kiger's Lakota Sioux, a KMA champion and and Oregon State Fair Champion. Her new home is in Mt. Airy, GA, with Angel Bryant, who got me interested in this message board. Lakota is now her "baby" and soul mate. I raised her from a foal and had her for 13 years, but because of medical problems and cannot ride ever again, I wanted her to go to a great home with lots of love. We had up to 14 mustangs at one time all either Kigers or Steens Mtn. Pintos. Jenny

Hi Jenny, We're working towards bringing a bit of cohesiveness to the mustang world. We will register all branded (gov) mustangs and any offspring that was conceived in the wild and born in captivity, but not horses that are bred in captivity. We do not feel the need to encourage breeding while there is such a huge problem of unadopted horses. We've gotten Washington State Horsemen on board and they're willing to offer a Mustang Division at all shows up here in 2009! Year end awards for high point mustangs will be given not only through WSH, but by our regional club as well. We'd like to see other states follow suite, but need people in OR, MO, WY and ID to be willing to help spearhead this. Eventually we'd like to be able to offer not only state awards, but regional and even national if we can drum up enough enthusiasm. There are already people in place in different regions of the country willing to work on this. I'd love if the mustang shows already in place would see the value of uniting and promoting as a unit the value of the mustang rather than just hosting a regional event. With all that the Mustang Heritage Foundation has done to raise the bar and recognition on a national level, I believe the time is here for us as individuals to pick up the pace and work together. We are also in the planning stages of YAY; Youth and Yearlings, a program partnering 12 Oregon yearlings with 12 applicants here in WA where they'll be gentling then competing this summer in 2 classes at a horse show where they can demonstrate the trainability of their horses in front of other horsemen. Yes, it was inspired by the yearling challenge, but on a smaller scale and using the horses up here in our region. We'll be meeting again in Burns, on Friday Dec 5 during the pick up of mustangs for the Northwest Extreme Mustang Makeover for anyone who's interested in joining us

We have not ever gotten around to joining Washington State Horsemen, but this might just do it! I think it would be great to have a high point division, and show what we can do! My 10 and 14 year old girls both show freeze branded mustangs in 4-H in our county (both are from Nevada; the horses I mean, not the daughters) . And now that I got my feet wet at Kigerfest, I might just get myself out there too! You mentioned that the club would be for freezebranded and rangebred; do you know if that would go for the WSH events as well? Lil

Yes, WSH is following our guidelines just like they would for quarter horses, arabs, appies and the like. The northwest region is just a small part of the picture, as today we officially announced the United States Wild Horse and Burro Association We're putting together registration forms and membership forms and should have them available by tomorrow morning for all who are interested.

We would definetly be interested in joining the NW regional mustang club. We will be in Burns on Dec. 5th to pick up are mustang for the challenge and will come to the meeting. We hope they still have the mustang challenge. They need 30 trainers and only have 5 signed up. So if you have thought about doing it, go for it. WE need 30 trainers and it's a win win situation for the mustangs. Also, KMA will be having Kigerfest in McMinnville, OR. again on July 18th and 19th. Pacific Wild Horse Club may be joining us in putting on this show. This could be the largest mustang show in the NW. We will be having lots of mustang classes just for mustangs. Also PWHC will be having year end awards next year for showing your mustang. You will be able to add up all your points for any show you go to. I hope you all will consider showing your mustangs next year!

I did the challenge in Sacramento and although I was hesitant to do it again this time of year. But Patti and Ramona are both on my case So I printed up applications and have left them at feed stores in hopes of some folks signing up. I heard the number was at 6 back around the 15th. I know people procrastinate so hopefully that's all that's happening here. It's just such a bad time of year for most of us unless we've got covered facilities. This spring I kept my gelding at a friend's but it was a 60 mile round trip each day for 2 months, and I can't afford that this time. Anyhoo...happy to be able to meet you in Burns!
