Roofus is my register Brussels Griffon, I am posting here to vent and get a response:
Saturday I to him into the groomer at Pet Smarts, this groomer was new to him and a new pets smart for us also..
She first tried to tell me my dog was not a Griffon, because he was to large, red flag,,, i was pissed, but i thought yes he is, and I will gladly shove his registration papers down her throat. But I did not say that, she took him from me and forced him into the back. Now Roofus loves to be groomed.. So Hubby and I left and went out to take care of the horse's, when I remembered she did not give me a time frame, so we drove back up to petsmart and we went in and asked how long will he be and was jumped on by four women, we do not know we are busy, I stepped back got very upset, asked again how long when I have taken him into the groomers and I told them which one i always knew the time frame. and that petsmart has been doing him for years till I moved.They were so rude, well i walked out and straight to the manager and filed a complaint.. that was sorta resolved, when it was time to go and get him 3 hours after I dropped him off he was not the same dog, at the other groomers when he saw me his little tail would go a million miles a min, and he would cry till I picked him up.that is what I expect to see. NOT, when they brought him to me he was trembling, wheezing, and very lethargic, and he was that way until today... I feel i handled it correct.. but why make a helpless animal that sick.. I went back up to the petsmart store today told them about how he was when we got him, how he was Sunday, and how today he was better but still not my roofus.. I know he will come around.. But that I will not be using their grooming facilities again... the manager said i do understand but please continue to shop here for you dog and cat needs and we will make it right, we will cover the vet here to have roofus checked out if I felt it was necessary. so needless to say I will have to locate another groomer, and i will watch that one ever so closely... I just needed to vent thanks for letting me. Oh yes several women after the fact spoke up I remember Roofus from the other groomer he was so awesome, and they were part of the problem, I just do not get it, did my dog who is my life have a sign that said hurt me...this all also took place on my birthday so it ended in a downer... I am now 50 years young...

I am so sorry your Roofus had to go through that type of harrowing experience. I have never been one to buy into the "Petsmart" hype as the workers there are all young kids or retired people. None of the so called groomers at the PatSmart near me have any sort of groomimg certificates or experience so I would NEVER bring my Baley girl into them.
Personally, I would have rushed Roofus into the vets and then gone to PetSmart and demanded that they pay for the visit and fire the person who groomed your dog. I get enraged when I hear things like what happened to your Roofus.

I absolotly agree with canadiankigers !!!! I would have taken him to the vet. I have worked in the vet field for two years and have herd MANY bad stories from that place and many very BAD haircuts .Many of the groomers are young kids with no experience! I have heard stories of little dogs falling of the table and hanging from the cord to hold the heads up while grooming. i am sure they dident hang for long but none the less it happens. any way...
Find a groomer who had been doing if for a long time mabey even one how knows about a wire coat that needs to be striped the right way for thier coat, ask for referances look at the shop , how are the other dogs and cats doing in the cages? Going to the groomer is usally not most dogs favorite thing but how do the animals act while the groomer walks by?? scared or happy?
The clinic i worked at hired a groomer who had been grooming for over twenty years and LOVED what she was doing, i learned alot from her! We also would sedate some animals so she could groom them so we had to watch the animals VERY close and were always in her space..lol.
I am so sorry this has happend to your little man, but i am sure that you will find a good groomer somewhere soon before you need one again.

Speaking as an experienced groomer ( retired from grooming after 18 years ) what happened with your dog is inexcusable. I would NEVER patronize a petsmart for grooming, myself. I would definitely have taken my dog to the vet to be checked out. I would look long and hard for an experienced groomer in a privately owned facility. I also would not recommend hand stripping for a pet. That is for a show wire coat and if the dog is not used to it, it can be painful.
Give Roofus a pat on the head for me.

Poor Roofus....Pisses me off to hear what Petsmart did. That is inexcusable. I'd file a complaint with the better business bureau! I have to say that I let them do the shave down this summer on our dog (large border collie/aussie/lab mix) and I was appalled....I could have done better with the horse clippers and I am no groomer! But that is what I got for taking her to them to get it done quickly then to let my regular groomer at my vet's do it....Poor baby...Give Roofus a hug from me! And vent away anytime YOUNG lady!

I know I made a mistake, and i am looking for a different groomer, never thought though to ask my vet to recommend, or if he has on in site, thank you for that...Today he is so good back to his loving normal self, sitting at my feet as i am here typing, or upstairs reading.. I was so mad i was bawling, when that happens watch out cause I will kick some butt, 50 or not I do not care...there is a place close to where we live that is also a place to leave your pet when you go out of town, might check out their groomer... but Roofus goes with me out of town...will not leave him home alone..
