Hi everyone! I am new to the board and a new kiger owner. I now own Calista (from Dianne Chaffee's Canyon Creek Kigers). I am super excited and this is a dream come true for me. I have always wanted a red dun kiger mustang and now I am blessed to have one. She is my first real horse ( I am taking care of her expenses and not my parents). My family raises Thoroubred racehorses, so we have lots of experiance with horses and will be taking our time with her. We are impressed with how fast she is learning and how relaxed she is in new situations. I will see if I can get some pictures of her on here. -Sbutter

We have been working with her twice a day for maybe about twenty minutes each session. She is learning everything super fast. We are working her in our round corral and we have her in a snaffel bit and surcingle now. She has no problems taking the bit in her mouth and she is enjoying the new lessons. I personally have no dead line for her to be broke and am willing to spend as much time as needed on anything that she is nervous about, but after being exposed to something once or twice she acts like she has always done it. My mom has broken a lot of horses in her past and is very impressed with how smart and calm she is. Calista has one of the most intelligent looking eyes I have ever seen.
I will be working with her hopefully twice a day until we leave for a horse sale this friday morning. We are super excited about this sale since we have some nice horses in our consignment and we even had our first interview ever about our consignment!

Dara, for these big thoroughbred horse sales a lot of big farms have horses that they are selling and they will have clients that want to sell their yearlings too, so the client will ask for the farm or representative at the sale to be the consigner for the sale. The consigner handles everything and has people show the horse to any potential buyers and takes care of the horse at the sale. Obviously there is a fee that the consigner charges for the care of the horse for each day that it is at the sale. A lot of people will ask for us to be their consigners, but they will ask if they can sales prep their own horse. We will look at the horses pedigree and conformation before we say yes, but usually we like to sales prep or we will let a couple of other farms sales prep for us, since we know that the horse will be properly ready for the sale. You can usually go to the sale and see how each consigner preps their horses and what kind of reputation they have. Some consigners just want as many horses as they can get as long as it has four legs and others, like ourselves, try to have a few high caliber horses that we are excited to talk about and sell. We are basicaly an agent. Over the years we have built a reputation that people trust that when they come see our horses they can ask us to show them any horse that we think that they should consider and they know we won't waste their time showing them a horse that they won't like(like a lot of other agents do).
