I think that Rojo was an older stallion from the same time as Mesteno. Yellow Sands showed up a little later and may be a son. This is according to what E Ron and Lloyd told me back in the 1990s.

We were told by Josh Warburten that Rojo was Mesteno's son.

Rojo is the one that was severly injured, either in a fight or by a cougar. They don't gather him and he was often see with a grey and a black stallion. The picture is the one I've seen before identified as him, don't know if that's true, but the one we saw looked just like the picture.

I also was always told that Rojo was Mesteno's son, and that he and Yellow Sand were one in the same. This from Ron back in 1993
