I will have someone post some photos for me since i still havent figured out the whole photo posting thing yet but my question is ...is she a red dun or a sorrel like my BLM papers say? dose having a dorsel automaticly make her a red dun or are there other factors??

An eel stripe dorsal with hard edges that goes down through the tail is proof positive for me. If you look at pictures of Calista you will see a red dun that has a sooty gene, so she is darker than most. Some red duns are very light, an apricot color but that is more rare.

Here's the red dun I recently placed: He's got a definite stripe, broad and dark, plus a little cobwebbing beneath his forelock.

Here are two pictures of Ginger, one of the four original Kigers we imported in 2003. Ginger first summer (2003) This is Ginger in the first winter here in Canada (2003/04) As you can see, she was very light with almost a creamy hue to her coat color but by the time winter came around her dark red dun factor was showing so strongly, you could even see the intense shoulder barring.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with Rodeovixxen, sorrel with countershading. Beautiful lady though!

I dunno guys....looks like a dorsal to me...... it would be better if the pic could be taken from up above. Does she have any striping on her legs Dara? Can't tell from the photos.

She has no barring on legs or any where else. I can get another photo from up high and see if it will show up better.

I still vote countershading. I think the best place to read about it is www.duncentralstation.com. Her dorsal just seems more faded instead of defined. I also don't see the rest of her being of the dun type, though I know you only need a dorsal to be a dun. It's just that normally their coloring is different. Edited to add another link: www.grullablue.com/colors/dun_factor_markings.htm

That's countershading. Sandy has the same thing on his bay body. I thought maybe he'd end up dun as well, but once all the shedding was done, it wasn't to be. Here's his stripe:

Ok so i went on the sites mentioned above and i think i understand countersading. Her stripe dose not continue into her tail and she dosent have the other signs of dun makings like "gaurdhairs" at the base of the tail ect.
