Found this and thought Id pass along .
ANYONE thinking of adopting a yearling - or simply like to work with yearlings?? I may just have a deal you can't refuse.
The Mustang Heritage Foundation and the BLM have a program we would like to take advantage of - BUT, we have to commit to 50 participants....
Here is a brief description of the program:
Individuals my apply to train one to four Yearlings. Individuals accepted into the program will receive $200 per Mustang to offset hauling and horse care expenses. The yearlings will be available to be picked up the end of April or beginning of May at Palomino Valley (actual dates not known yet). The yearlings will be selected via lottery. Yearlings will be as uniform in size and age as possible.
The Yearlings will have SPECIAL, just for them classes at our Western States Wild Horse and Burro Expo in August (Reno, NV August 15-17). There will be two classes with three groups: Youth, Open and Amateur. Mustangs will be scored in body condition (not confirmation) and an in hand competition, including picking up feet, loading in a trailer and leading through a pattern with obstacles. Cash prizes will be $2500 split between the three groups. Special classes will continue at the Wild Horse Expo for these 50 horses in 2009 and 2010 with additional cash prizes.
At the Wild Horse Expo (this August), after competition, participants may keep their yearling, at no cost (the $125 adoption fee will be waived). You can take your yearling home and we hope to see you at the show in the future.
If you decide you don't want to keep the yearling, the yearlings will be sold during the Wild Horse Expo by Silent Auction bidding. Any monies raised above the $125 adoption fee for your yearling is YOURS.
If you are interested, please let me know right away. We are putting together a list of interested people, and will say YES to this opportunity once our list hits 50 .....We are on a short time frame to be able to say "YES" to this opportunity- SO, please let me know if you are interested in participating in this program right away (by this Friday (2/15) so we can make a decision....)
PLEASE pass this information on to others that you think might be interested in this. It is a great opportunity for up and coming trainers, individuals that love training, 4H and FFA kids, etc. Start spreading the news.....
AND, while I have your attention - I need questions for next weeks newsletter, horsy events, mustang stories you want to share, horsy stuff for sale.....
