My name is Tracey, I live up in the northWET corner of WA state. Been here my whole life...which is nearly half a century (land, I'm old!)
Adopted our first BLM mustang two years ago. Currently have eight of them standing out there, 3 of which are going to the county fair next week to be adopted out.
I was a trainer in the Western States Mustang Challenge, but my gelding came down lame and I wasn't able to compete (sniff). I adopted him and he's now headed off to the fair next week as well where we'll give the pleasure class and novice reining a shot.
Only have one Kiger, but she's headed to the adoption next week as she just wasn't a good fit for our family.

Hi my name Tiffany and I bought my first BLM Mustang mare 12 yrs ago when she was pregnant after being bred to a Kiger Mustang stallion. Fantasy was born And I have been in love with Kiger Mustangs sense. I have been raising captive bred Mustang crosses for the past 12 years. On a VERY small scale. At present there are 2 Kiger/BLM Mustangs, Kiger/Paint, Mustang/Paint and the original BLM mare I bought all those years ago, on the farm. They share the farm with a number of other domestic breed horses. I too live in central Oregon and trail ride when ever I can and take the horses camping. I am always looking for someone to come ride with me as well.

Hey Welcome, although I only joined this board in February. You can read about me on the second page of the general message strand. I bought my first kiger mustang just a year ago, Blackstone's Lady Shiloh. She is doing pretty well and would do better if it would stop raining here! Shirley

Hello, My name is Joan and I am the proud owner of five Kigers currently and hoping to get down to two. I used to have twelve so am making progress. ;D I used to breed on a very small scale as Mud Ranch Kigers but have found that I don't have the time with our one year old daughter as she keeps me pretty busy. I am still in the breeding business though, but now with much easier subjects, Jacob Sheep. It's great because now if I have culls I can always put them in little white packages in the freezer. I have a blog if you'd like to visit at www.mudranch.com. ETA: Dara & Heidi, it's nice to see other younguns on here... I'm also 27... 28 this coming Friday the 15th.

Gosh you guys. Does that mean I'm old?? I'm Kim, and I have been raising Kigers here in Washington State since 1989, when I first bred my old Smyth creek mare to a Kiger stallion ( now deceased ) Riddle Mtn. Wild Bear. He was my first experience with a Kiger and it used to just amaze me how his owner trusted him with her small children. I currently have 14, that is not including ones I am boarding for a friend or the raffle colt who lives here til the end of the month. I had whittled it down from 19 to 11 but with the newly adopted ones I'm back up again! I have a couple currently for sale but most are here to stay. They truly are my passion, along with my Great Danes, Jesse and Wyatt.

I'm Janet. I have one Kiger, he's 5 and only has a few rides on him. I don't have time to work much with him. I have one Arabian gelding, who is my pasture ornament. Sent him to a trainer and he came back a nutcase.

Hi - I'm Angel - I live in Georgia and have my whole life. I got my first kiger a year ago, and we really didn't suit each other's needs - so he was sold to a dressage trainer where he is doing wonderful now and soon to enter the show ring next year. I now have Lakota - a steens kiger mare who is my dream horse. She's amazing and everything Ive been looking for. Im addicted to kiger's now and would have a pasture full if I had the money. I've got a baby coming from Dianne out of Cedar and Chinny - very excited about that. I've found a trainer very close to me that is going to help me show the baby in halter classes next year.
My boyfriend is now looking for a kiger - one that he can do a lot of different things with, like cow sorting, roping, trail riding, etc. He has fell in love with Lakota and loves her disposition and the way she's built.

Kim.... no, obviously I'm the old one of this bunch! Hi - I'm Nancy from Idaho (idahomustanger) I'm 53...almost 54. My husband Jerry and I have 2 sons and 16 grand-children). We've always had horses and adopted our first mustang from Coyote Lake HMA in Oregon in 1996. We have adopted a total of 8 mustangs since that time. We adopted our first Kiger in 1999 and then we acquired Kiger/part Kiger mare (with found blood) in early summer 2000 as a yearling and our Foundation Stallion, Idaho's Running Shadow, in the late fall of 2000. We have bred/raised 7 foals since that time and now are in the process of downsizing our herd, and gelding Shadow. We are trying to get down to having Shadow, who is 9, a 3/4 Kiger/ 1/4 QH mare, who is 8, and 2 young ones... 1) a 3 year old filly out of a Sheepshead BLM mare and Shad (who is well on her way to being an awesome trail horse) and 2) a 2 year old gelding out of the Kiger/QH mare and Shad, who will be started under saddle next spring. We've got a 16 yr old QH gelding that will not be going anywhere. We have the Sheepshead HMA mare, we adopted in 1998, a Kiger gelding we adopted in 1999 and the ranchbred Kiger/Part Kiger mare we bought in 2000. We are in the process of selling these 3. I've only got about 18/24 months to work for Bonner County in the Prosecutor's Office and I'll be retired. My husband has already retired from 2 jobs...28 years with the Idaho State Police and another 12 years with the US Marshalls office. We are ready to start playing and riding our horses more. I'm hoping we can make one more trip to the Bob Marshall Wilderness in the next couple of years...before we don't want to sleep in a tent and on the ground! LOL! It might already be too late now....hahahahaha!
We love the ponies and they are our favorite pastime/hobby.

Hey Nancy, We are pretty close in age as my husband, David, and I just turned 50! We want to do some camping with our horses, only David is definitely not a fan of tents. We currently have our one Kiger, Shiloh, who is domestic bred and then about seven other horses, ranging from AQHA to American Warmblood, to Andalusian. I have a few for sale, but then went and purchased two weanlings who are supposed to arrive in September! Arrrgggg....what was I thinking?!! Shirley

Hi Shirley,Just wondering where you are in Vermont as I'm headed back there next week.I used to live there from 1968-74 in Guilford, near Brattleboro. I did have horses there but kigers weren't known .Funny to think of kigers in Vermont. Oh yeh,I live in Northern Ca. and have a captive-bred son of Steens Vaquero called Amigo del Verano(summer friend)I mostly do endurance on my arab and Amigo has been started in dressage. His main claim to fame is his size..he's been recently sticked at 16'2 , weighs 1200lbs & is 7 yrs old.Big Boy :>) p

I live an hour and a half west of Brattleboro, in Dorset. Wow what did you feed your guy? I have never heard of a 16.2 hand kiger before! He is just the size of my American Warmblood (TB/Perch) Deuce. How long have you owned Amigo?
Eventually I would like to get back into lower level eventing once my horses get some age on them. Our oldest horses are only four this year.

I live north of Seattle, WA and have 13 Kigers. I was horse crazy from age 4. I've been breeding since I got the Kiger bug in Dec. 1999 and was crushed to find out I had just missed an adoption. I went on a shopping trip to Oregon for two Kigers and came home with six. My husband mentions that once in a while <grin>. I hated showing but love taking pictures and playing with the foals. I think I've been incredibly lucky to have had such wonderful horses and be part of the Kiger world, warty people and all. My biggest thrill is to walk out into the herd and know that I'm regarded as a member. We are getting ready to retire and this will be my last crop of foals (I might have to sneak one in now and then though).
