Hi Shirley,Actually Dianne has a big bay kiger too, named Santana. He resembles Amigo and is also being started in dressage. They both look very Andalusian.Amigo's sire is listed as 15'3,though Tiffany (who lives near him & has 2 mares by him) says he may not really be that tall.He certainly produces large off-spring. I've had Amigo since he was 22months old.p

I think we are seeing lots of taller Kigers. It makes sense since they are getting good nutrition in utero and growing up. That first year is so important. We've had several foals that may finish really tall and i've seen a couple advertised at 16 hands.

I think the key word here is "advertised at 16hds"...I had Amigo advertised at 16hds & when someone came to try him they were surprized to find he was actually taller than that. They had looked at several kigers and all were far shorter than they had been listed at.One "16hd" horse was barely 15 hds but you see that in lots of breeds.Dressage riders definitely want big horses. Sorry,we're going off in a different subject here....but then, that's kinda "who we are too!"p

DianneC ..you make me laugh with the sneak a foal in later comment I love that "never say never" that sounds so much like me. I am not making no more baby horses to sell as of now but one can never tell what the future holds. pepper...I don't think Cowboy is 15'3, but I can say he does make big babys. Cleo my daughter's mare out of Cowboy is 16 hds, she is 6 yrs old. Wickee is 3 yrs old and 15 hds at least. So while some are on the short side, there are the tall ones too. I think it is great that there are so many Kiger owners everywhere across the states and many new young and old owners.

Hi all. I kind of introduced myself when I was first approved, but I wanted to cover who am I too, not just why I like Kigers, just to be polite. My name is Alyssa. I'm 31, single but in a committed relationship with Tommy who I've known my whole life, and I live in Chicago, IL in the city proper in the same building I was born in (just a different apt. as I rent the 1st floor apt. from my parents who own the building and live on the 2nd). I have a mutt who I drove down to Little Rock, AR to adopt in Oct. '06, whose name is Layla. She's half German Shepherd, half Anatolian and ALL guard dog, but a lovable mush all the same. I have a mutt of a rescue rabbit whom I adopted in April '01, whose name is Elvis. He's skinny (malnourished as a youngster, so he never quite filled out), homely, and frankly, not the brightest bunny either, but I love him just the same. I was a customer service professional for over 5 years, but after being laid off some time ago have been temping for a while and am now looking for another FT job, probably doing the same thing because I was darn good at it. I grew up helping my parents raise and show English Springer Spaniels, so there's little I don't know or love about dogs. Love all animals really and I guess for lack of a better term, they've been a hobby of mine my whole life. I mean, I don't have a degree or a job in the field of ethology, but I'd list it as my no. 1 passion, and something I'm always interested in learning more about. And finally, as I stated on another post, I've been in love with horses for as long as I can remember. It was the first thing I ever drew as a kid, even before I have a memory of seeing a horse in person. So... when I have that FT job (and the insurance that will come with it I'll start riding lessons, and with any luck someday the first horse I buy (or adopt) will be a Kiger. Nice to meet all of you. I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hi Heidi and Alyssa:
My name is Angela....Live outside of St. Louis with my hubbie, 2 kids, 1 dog, 1 cat and 4 horses....Of my horses, the peacekeeper is an old QH gelding, then my daughter has 2 mustang mares Kahlua and Valentine, and I have a Kiger Mustang colt I adopted in November....He is my 4th Kiger I've ever had....My daughter and I love to trail ride and show....and promote mustangs to the general public....I just took my little yearling Kiger to a show and am still amazed by how many people think that just cause he has a BLM brand on his neck he is untrainable! HA!
Welcome both to this super board....I love it and the great polite conversations that can be carried on here! Michelle does a good job on this board....
Angela
