I noticed in a magazine that AQHA is starting a new registry where if you only have to have one parent registered with AQHA, you can register your horse as 1/2. So both parents don't have to be registered in order for you to register with them.

How interesting, I guess it is good to know that one needs to keep informed on registry changes or amendments.

Angelsdream,
Do you remember what magazine this was in? Very curious as to what exactly AQHA's thinking on this is.
I know there is a 1/2 quarter horse registry out there, has been for years, but the have no affiliation with AQHA.
I went on AQHA's site and saw no mention of this nor in my mailings I receive from them.
Nola, Why would you think this is a good thing? Not trying to fight or anything, just debate ideas.
I truly believe they do not need to add a 1/2 registry, especially if they are not going to require one parent to be registered in some registry, whether it be arabian, TB etc...
AQHA has already allowed TB blood into the registry, I can not think what they would hope to gain by allowing non-registered stock in. The breed already looks like several different breeds due to specialization in events. The quarter horses of my youth no longer have a place in the new modern quarter horse world. The Quarter Horse was known as a versatility horse. Thats what made them famous. Now you have ones that only halter, only do reining, only do cutting, only do western pleasure, only do hunter under saddle, etc... and one in a particular discipline looks vastly different in type and build from one in another discipline. I have been greatly disappointed by AQHA's take on what has happened to this breed.

Kara -
It was Horse and Rider. It may be the 1/2 registry you're thinking of that's out there now. I didn't know there could be a registry like that but I guess people can start whatever they want, obviously.
