I got my new horse "Ranie" 2 weeks ago. He is a 8 year old Reg Kiger with a whole lot of personality! I picked him up in a packaged deal for $200. He has been a little spooky but man this guy is smart. When I first got him he was green broke and I mean GREEN. With a little help from from a friend I got on him 2 days ago for the first time. I thought I would share a couple pictures. We took a little ride, by bees, tractors, down a canyon, saw some deer and cows and through water. He only hesitated when he saw cows and water but over came them very well with very little help. I cant say it enough he is one smart little cookie! I can see every day the trust that is built and its so rewarding. When I first got him 2 weeks ago

It sounds like you two are off to a great start and you are very happy with Ranie. I can't wait to hear more stories of your experiences being a Kiger owner and how much more Ranie learns in the proccess.

Thank you so much for the welcome to the board. Everyone seems really nice from what I have been reading. I bought Ranie as a deal with the other white horse up in the top photo...he is a mustang/QH, he’s my boyfriends horse his name is Smokey. He is a stocky little thing with feet tougher then nails. He’s a great little packer too. They had been together for years and so we had to separate them for awhile. They wouldn’t let each other out of their sight. It made it very difficult to work with them. They have been doing lots better though. Ranie is my first Kiger, I fell in love with him right away. I feel like we have a bond already which is weird for such a short time. I knew he had a lot of potential right away. There are to major things I need to work on with him though and that is his back feet being touched and when he is tied up he digs. It will just take lot of time and I am sure he will overcome. As for his Sire and Dam, I’m not sure yet. Still waiting on the papers.

Well, sounds like you got a great deal!! My boyfriends horse is named Smokey .
What I have always done and been told to do when one paws from being tied is just leave them until they stand there quietly, then they get the release and are untied, but as long as they paw or act up, leaven 'em alone and ignore them. Make sure it's a safe place though -They think that action gets them noticed and untied, plus they learn a lot of patience in the process!
