This question is mostly for Kevin and Lisa, but I figured I would just toss it on here. Mostly because work blocks my personal email and I'm bored out of my mind. What's Keno currently eating? I'm used to caring for a hothouse flower TB. My old horse would drop 20 pounds if a rabbit sneezed and got hot off just about everything. Grass hay and beet pulp were all he could handle. Feeding a mustang is going to be a change. What should I expect? Also transitioning him slowly to a new feed is probably going to be impossible. How horrible are sudden changes? If the images of your fields are any indicator I imagine he gets much of his calories from grazing. It's going to be possible to block off a small area for Keno to graze but it will be a treat. Someplace I can put him for an hour or so while I do other chores. There's just not enough room to have a decent pasture. He's going to have to live on hay/feed. What would you recommend I start off with? I'll of course have to adjust as needed, but I'm curious what you think a good starting point is. Does he need any suppliments? I'm also checking with my friends in Hawaii to see if thier local hay has any quirks that I should know about.

Hi kate, Keno is currently on orchard grass hay and performace grain, which is high in protien. In the winter time (he was on alfalfa/grass hay and rolled oats). He will be an easy keeper I am sure, but he is still growing so fast (now at 16hhs), that I have to keep pumping the feed to him. He is only on pasture as a treat. So I would start him on rolled oats and whatever grass hay you can get. That is a pretty plain diet with maybe some horse guard supplement. Lisa
