Does anyone know of a product I can use to help with gnats and flies for Argo. I have fly predators that I spread every month. I have also hung up a fly catcher jug with fly attractant in it. I have spread fly and mosquito bait around the outside of the pen, and still the flys bite him. I have thought of adding a feed through, to his small amount of grain, but I don't know if they work or if they are safe. Any suggestions?

we use, to use a pellets for fly control that we gave to our horse when we lived in Utah, and it worked, but they also say we have to keep the poo to a minimum. and it took a little while, but it did work, I can not remember the name. A trainer here in Mesa uses Garlic granules, yes his horse's poo smells like garlic but no flies land on him or skeeter's, cause they get the flavor of garlic.

I've heard that feed through products are not good for pregnant or lactating mares. Anyone have more information?
I have some bait that I would like to use but am concerned about other animals and birds getting into it. Anyone use it and how do you do that?

I use the fly predators and they are very effective. Wendels herbs has some garlic supplements that are supposed to be effective feed thru's but I have no personal experience with them. Kim

Dianne, I have used bait before and put it in small containers that only the flies can get into (I go them from a friend who has a pest business). The bait has worked, but it is also an attractant, so it always seems that there are more flies around! I have used the fly predators and liked them alot, however, this year we still had 40 degree nights in May, so I did not get them started early.
here is a good recipe for fly spray (safe for broodmares and foals):
3/4 gallon water 1 cup vinegar (any kind) 1/2 cup Dawn Dishsoap 20 drops each of the following essential oils: peppermint eucalyptus tea tree citronella
X-strength for flies: 20 additional peppermint X-strength for mosquitoes: 20 additional citronella
I have also had good luck using Geranium oil also...
