I just got my scanner fixed and downloaded a few more pictures of Northern Manitou (aka Mani). Here is one with him and Mom spending time with the herd.

Oh I love that picture if it was not for the big pile of grass hay, it would look like a wild forest herd, pretty awesome.

Thats a great question Nola, as you know the herd dynamics of this breed never cease to amaze me!!! We had Honey in a separate foaling pen so she could have her privacy. As the top mare, she is used to everyone moving out of her way when she comes through but when she began foaling Ciente, her 2005 foal all the others all came over to see what was happening. This of course was NOT what Honey had in mind so this time we let her foal by herself.
On day two, once the little guy was up and moving, we put her and the foal out in the herd. At first all the mares had to see the new addition, but Honey made it clear that they needed to keep their distance. She settles down quit quickly, (once she has made her point) and the foal is just loving it. He can do NO wrong and Momma defends him. He is quit the character and loves to visit everyone.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Canada is expecting three more foals. Kizzy (full Kiger), and the two partial blood Kigers Saleen and Maid N Canada are also due to foal this year. If Kizzy has a colt, it will be available but if she throws a filly, I will be keeping it for my breeding program. Saleen and her foal will be going to Northern Quebec with Mani where they will be living with Fuego. (He calls her Elfie). It will be interesting to see the resulting foal from Elfie and Mani. I know it is a few years off but still, I am curious to see what those two will eventually produce.
Edited to add......
The vet came out today to give Mani his health check, first shots and blood work. While he was at the Wild Sage Ranch he also did a check up on Kizzy. It seems that she fooled us all and is not in foal. We will be putting her in with Shelby for a 2009 foal.

The Wild Sage Ranch got a few visitors last week and Mani was there to greet them in that typical Kiger fashion.

Oh Bummer about Kizzy that silly mare fooling you all like that. Well I will be looking forward to a 2009 Kizzy foal then. As I am sure you will as well. Sorry you will not be having one this year. Mani however is just getting cuter by the day, he has grown so and so nice he can meet and greet the vistors and be your little Kiger ambassador
