Sage has made some significant changes over the last 32 hours. Belly has dropped and moved back, milk vein at attention and large udders. She is very stoic, but has made tiny behavior changes, so she is all tucked in and we are ready and waiting! She does not get milk in her nipples and I have never seen wax. Since she still likes to be the wild-child, I don't bother her too much as she gets closer to foaling. We just not-so-patiently wait for that bundle of joy! She has foaled the last two years around 4am, so I will have to check on her a few times to see if we have any chances. Hopefully we will get a new foal in the next few days!

She is a beautiful mare Michelle, good thing she has nice foals with her "wild-child" attitude. ;D Did you adopt her from the wild?
Looking forward to seeing pictures of that baby!

4am check last night and Sage was flat out snoring, so most likely did not foal! A few times she even snorted and I had to laugh that she even still acts like that in her sleep! Every time I approach this mare (after four years of owning her...), she still snorts at me. I go back and forth every year as to sell her or not, but this time I think I am serious about it!! Hard to, as she has had the nicest fillies by Charro and I would venture to say this foal by Hipo will be wonderful too.
Oh, I did dream she had milk dripping this morning - see, I can't even get away from it in my sleep!!

She's resting up for that bouncing kid she's about to have. Sounds like you have just one thing on your mind these days Michelle, and I can understand why! So you do AI with JP's horses? It will be so interesting to see what your crosses will look like. Can't wait!

Sage is still progressing, but tonight she is very agitated, her udder did not really go down from this morning when I turned her out...she is very busy in her stall. Last night she did not even eat her hay. I had to move her out of the big pen into a large stall, as it will be chilly tonight, so we moved the camera and are all set to check on her. Hopefully she does not do her usually 4am foaling!

Guess what I got.....a bunch of FAT mares, that's what!! What a crazy year...I can't think Sage can get any bigger, but she is. She usually sleeps flat out, snoring away, but last night spent over an hour laying upright, then going flat and back again. She could not get comfortable.
Sycha, who was due Saturday, hardly has any belly and an udder, but her milk is thick and opaque. Rosita - no udder and skim milk, due on Sunday. Hija is bagging up, but we can't get any milk out of her to test. Leza is gonna POP and is completely miserable all day and night - her milk is still yellowish, but seemed like it may be turning as of last night. Picasa is hanging on - gotta be a Desi baby at this point.
We figured that since Momma foaled a week late and Sycha is overdue and not getting ready that maybe Desi foals take longer to cook - must be that big old head of his on those foals!
Since we have switched feeds to the natural/organic feed, plus doing the gut conditioning, that we may have a very different year than is on the books. None of the mares are following thier normal patterns and levels. Interestingly the gut conditioning is supposed to balance out the pH in thier system and this year everyone is testing a much lower level by at least a point. Maybe we won't see much of a drop...? I am sure the soy in the last feed was messing with thier hormone levels.
Storms today, so will keep Sage in so she does not have that foal out in the rain. I sure wish I could get some milk out of her to see where we are at! At this point, if everyone gets overdue or early, we will be out of May Madness and into Foal-A-Rama!

Sage foaled a gorgeous dun colt last night at 2am. He is by JPs' Lusitano stallion, Hipogrifo.. [/center] He is just the sweetest boy and accepts anything you want to do with him! He was having trouble pooping this afternoon, so while he was lying down, I gave him a enema without even holding him - just did what I needed to do and he was so great about it, hope he keeps this great accepting attitude as he matures! Big colt, tons of stripes like him momma, daddy's head and legs three miles long - 44" tall. Finally, we have our Hipo colt we have been waiting for! Sneak peek:
