Its spring and enough time has passed that I can share this. We tragically lost Rio to colic at Burns last October during the adoption. It was heart-breaking. The closest vet hospital was two hours away and he wouldn't have made it. Michelle and I were devestated. He had come so far since coming back home. Michelle was so pleased with him and I was thrilled to have brought him to the place where he thought people were worthwhile. I loved that boy and had spent three years working to get him back. It was thrilling that he was going to be with Michelle, get her awesome training and contibute to the breed. I'm glad that he was able to be loved and have a mare of his own. Sedona is expecting his only foal in early June. Quil is his full sister and I've kept her. He was the smartest horse I've ever known and everyone who knew him is still saddened by his loss. Michelle and I will continue to work on crossing the Charro and Chinook lines. We miss you big guy, you were the very best. Watch over the wild Kigers for us and your herd here at home.

Aww I am so very sorry for your loss.. It is always very sad and heartbreaking when you lose someone, wether it be a person or another animal... I know how you must feel, I had a horse as a best friend and I loved her more than anything in the world, and I lost her to cancer back in 2006. I hope you're doing okay now, and I hope your foal will be a magnificent one since it means a lot

I am so sorry for your loss, I was so excited when Michelle told me he was coming to Rancho Bayo, we had planed on breeding him to Hija this year. The loss of Rio is a great loss to the Kiger world and leaves a sadness in us all

Needless to say, this broke my heart. I know he meant a lot to Dianne and it was heart wrenching to watch her go through this with him - he'd come so far and had so many possibilities ahead of him.
I really think the Chinook colts and the Charro daughters are going to be a super cross; we are still working toward it and look forward to see what the future holds.
I wish I got to know Rio better.
