Saw this video going around on FB and was curious about thoughts on this. I think any tool can be abused, but am not sure how serious of an issue this video would be if you have soft hands. I was also curious if the "break" is a big reason horses to need their faces adjusted? www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=7GNAfGJLxb4

Interesting...as you said, any tool can be misused. My big issue with this is then - what? There is no alternative given. I doubt they would agree with bit use. I've seen neck ropes misused and it can pull on the trachea and do damage there also. Is there other options?
The key to this, as always, is education of the rider. My big issue as of late is the difference between riding and training. There are many riders out there but not everyone is a trainer. Riders can ride horses trained to the riders level but what happens when an issue comes up? More often than not, the equipment comes out.
More trainers/teachers need to quite giving "riding lessons" and teach folks basic foundation training so owners have something to fall back on when things are not working as they should. But then again, most folks giving riding lessons have little clue in what it takes to actually train a horse - that is why they buy "school horses" that are used to being abused and taken advantage of.
This issue is my peeve as of late...
