I'm not a good judge of conformation in horses, but here's my take, I don't like his neck, don't like how it connects into his shoulders and his shoulders look high to me (maybe too up and down). Don't like how it connects into his head either and his head looks a bit small to me.

I am not very good either but,I think its a very bad photo...but throatlatch look very thick and neck is way to cresty for me and hind legs look like he is a bit post legged? (I think that is what its called) hind pasterns look to upright to me.

Now assuming I did this correctly, here are my opinions! His neck comes out of his shoulder too low, it is very cresty, and his throat latch is too low or thick or something. It seems as though his wither is too far back or his shoulder too forward, the girth would not sit in the proper position causing the saddle to come forward. I don't like how downhill he is, but I do like his short back. I do like his shoulder angle but the hip angle does not match. His flank could come up a little too. He kind of looks camped under, but that may be the way he is standing (and his tail is covering his leg). And for his front legs, his pastern is short and the knee caved in a little, but again, could be how he's standing. Honestly, there is too much I don't like about the front half of him, I'm not a fan. Pretty color though!

Em...you brat!! You guys are getting good!!! I love how they tilted the picture to make him look more balanced. I am with the last comments on the shoulder - once the pic is straightened out, the shoulder is okay but the hip is typical Andalusian; that flat croup. His foreleg is too forward under his shoulder; putting a saddle on him where it wants to sit in the girth area would set it up on his neck! It would be interesting to see him under saddle. His neck DOES take up his whole shoulder for sure and I think you are right Dara, his back legs are pretty darn straight.
In regards to his pasterns, if you look at the hairline on his hooves, there is a "bump" at the rear of each of them - the hairline is not straight. His heels are too far forward which makes his pasterns stand more upright. This could most likely be fixed up with a good farrier job.
Can't fool you guys anymore!

Lol, when tipping a picture...make sure there isn't a huge pole that is parallel to the ground It also doesn't help that his hind legs are lined up with the trunk of a tree. It really makes it look like he has straight legs at first glance. I agree with what's been said

Michelle, could you post a pic of a horse with proper conformation for reference, or do you have one on here already? Just to use for a reference...conformation is something I would like to know more about and what types work better for what disciplines.

How about conformation on this fellow. He is a horse I owned about twenty five or so years ago. Be as critical as possible, you won't hurt my feelings

Yah it is really hard to tell from this picture. I zoomed it in and could see alittle better. He has a real long big hip which is nice, but his shoulder doesn't match. His neck is thin and comes into his withers really low making his withers bigger. His back and neck seem too short for his long hip. He is very pretty, was he rough at the trot??

LOL, he was rough at everything. Worst horse I have ever owned! lol He would get so ticked off he would turn bright red all the way down his neck and his eyes would get bloodshot. His front feet were slightly splayed, yes, his neck was narrow, his body didn't work harmoniously with itself. He did have a big hip, his front legs always seemed a bit too forward to me. He was like two different horses, large back end, small front end, that was my opinion, just wondering about others opinions
