I haven't looked at the pics, but I guarantee it is the same horse. Roans get a full dark winter coat, then shed out light colored again in the spring. If it's the same number, it's the same horse. And very doubtful that he will go grey. The face is the indicator. Solid face = roan, in a grey the face will almost always grey out first.

He does not look like he is going to grey. Very young foals get grey rings around the eyes but very quickly the grey shows up along the rest of the face especially the nose. Roans can look almost solid in the winter...I have two and it seems like all of a sudden I am like "what horse is that?!".
