I recently purchased a coming 11 yo kiger mare. She was very friendly when I met her and handled her but now she is in my pasture with my other two horses she is only letting me come to her and barely touch her. Now I don't chase her when she backs away I just let her go. I put my gelding in an arena today because he is acting stallionish and not letting her come to the barn. She is with my 2 yo filly now. Any advice? I've only had her here two days, and she's been gentled and in captivity for 9 years now. Do you think it'll just take her a few days to adjust? She will be going to the trainers in a few weeks but I wanted to try to bond with her a bit before she left. Any experienced kiger owners have any tips?

Seem like I would want to get her by herself in a pen so you are her life line where she looks to you for her choices...learns to fully trust you, just like you would do with a wild one.... What dose everyone else think??

That is good advice, to get her by herself. Now that you've moved your gelding though, things may be different. If your filly is very friendly and comes to you for attention, she may be a good example for the mare. The mare may take her lead and come in with her to see what the big deal is. If that does not work, then being by herself may work better. It could take awhile for her to warm up to you. If she was different when you first saw her it is because she was comfortable where she was at. Right now her world has changed and she is unsure - especially if your gelding was being a turkey; probably scared her.
Give her time and take it slow. Keep us updated on how it is going.

Hey, Thanks for the advice. I decided to see if my gelding had calmed down and put him back in with the girls. Now they seem to be best buds and my new mare likes to follow him around. Also, progress, today she came up to the barn and stayed. She seems to have gotten over her fear of my goats, sheep and chickens. So I slowly approached her and she was looking at me. I reached out my and she moved towards me and stood to be petted all over! yay. Also she will be going in a large stall on friday to get her to bond with me. YAY!
