Wow what a gorgeous guy! Did he come from the Riddle HMA?

Do you think they could have been a very light dun with flaxen? The reason I ask is because the dorsal is so so dark and the cream lightens the whole body - not leaving the points so vivid on red base. All the dunalinos I've seen (and raised) are have white white manes and tails (a few ashen colored but then their stripes are greyish too - not so red). Curious. Did they get adopted out? I wonder why it has not shown up again. Thanks for posting these.

beautiful no matter what. I would guess red dun but then there is something else there for sure and i really want to know, lol. Where is this guy I doubt he would be hard to miss in the corrals and would have been snatched up for sure if he had been brought in... Dang it now i really want to go on a hiking trip out there ti find him and bring him home, lol.

I wonder if that is his son or brother next to him in the last picture as his mane seems to be a bit lighter as well?

Obviously we can't know for certain without genetic color testing, but I'd say he's a very light red dun, like my (formerly mine ) Dani was. Michelle I think you're right.

Nope, I've seen Dani and she was definitely red, not yellow. Kim, if you could post a picture of Dani maybe we could compare. Michelle, you've got something going on with your palomino mares that makes them super light. Kind of like sooty in reverse. So don't know that's a fair comparison. It would be interesting to ask Ramona if she would pull hair from Tia, who is 20 something. They didn't want creme in the herd apparently because they moved her to Paisley. Andi Harmon has pictures of some horses that look like these two in the corrals. You can see them by going to her website or maybe I'll ask her to post them here. Pictures look old, so don't know what year Andi's were taken.

Certainly can be cream, no doubt and I agree that many of my red creams are light. The two that you can clearly see stripes on are Amada - who is super light colored and has greyish striping and now Max, who's stripes are dark but have a grey tone to them. Here is one I found today just browsing. Unfortunately the website he is from is down and not other info is given; but check out the stallion at the bottom: www.dungenes.org/red_dun.htmAnother, midway: www.duncentralstation.com/RedDun.htmlHere are some dunalinos that have kept the redish color on the points: www.duncentralstation.com/DunOtherDilute.htmlWhat ever happened to these boys, anyone know? Can you post Andis' website where the picts are? Wish they would have left the cream on the HMA...

Here are a few of my guys. Amada has very definable leg bars, dorsal and reverse mask. In the winter her stripes are more reddish, in summer more grey; I'll have to find picts of those. This pict is winter: Fabio, another dunalino, more typical. His stripes are more visible during season changes and they are reddish: For comparison, Tika, is a red dun with champagne - no cream. Her body color is lighter - the sun was setting in this picture. She was born with a red mane and tail that turned pretty quick. She's a full sister to Fabio. All three share Charro as their sire but Amada has a different momma. Solana is another dunalino but she is more like Fabio and you can only see her stripes during coat changes. The other is Max, who has dark grey stripes but he is still in his baby coat so we shall see what comes of it in spring.

I do love Solana, such a pretty girl. These horses were faded out as the background for both the 2003 and 2007 adoption catalogs, so it was taken 2003 or earlier. I have the 2003 catalog, its a huge file. They do call one yearling and one new foal buckskin. I don't see these horses in the catalog, maybe like Tia they got moved to another HMA. Here is another site with Stone Pin Hannah about half way down. www.morgancolors.com/dun.htmThe Morgans have gone crazy about the duns that "suddenly" appeared in the breed. That would be interesting to read more about. The site says that what would have been a darker palomino will have a darker dorsal. They have a silver dun on one of the sites. Looks nothing like the Kiger boy.

Not sure how this matches up with your information, but Ron pulled off 10 or 11 red dun/dunalino stallions and mares out of the Riddle MT HMA just before turning out the Kigers. Most of them went to the Eugene adoption facility. We had one of them for a couple of years. He was the same red dun color with cream and red mane and was called by Ron a orange dun on his papers. Duggan was 5 years old when he was captured and a crypt. I have a feeling that at least one of his colts was left out since we saw that same style and kind of horse show up on a regular basis out of the Riddle herd. If I can figure out how to put up a picture I will post one of him.
