Whew! We had a great time yesterday; all the horses did super and I was so proud of everyone.
Amada, who has now been under saddle a month, was so dang cute! Emily has done a fantastic job with her and Amada just took everything in stride. She placed 5th in In-Hand Trail (Level I) out of 14...!!
Then she went into the group Suitability for Dressage (western walk/trot) and I can't remember because we did not get score sheets for group classes but I believe she placed 4th out of a class of 8. She sure did not have the "dressage" look but did everything that was asked of her without any fuss!
She placed 8th in the Trail Horsemanship Level I (out of 18!)...
Emily also showed Solana for Lynn (since Lynn is recovering from a broken foot). Lana was so laid back that some of her remarks were that she needed more energy! We were happy of course that she was so nonchalant about everything - energy will come later. Very happy as this was her first time being ridden at a show. Lana placed 4th in the In-Hand Trail Level II (out of 6). Here she is backing through the "L":
Then she rode in the Dressage Suitability (western Level II walk/trot/lope). She placed 4th out of 7 I believe.
Lana also did a Dressage Test and placed 3rd out of 4. She did a great test. Then last class for her was Trail Horsemanship Level II. She placed 2nd out of 6.
Reina, my Reina. I would never have guessed that she would have been so calm about the whole situation. Did not bat an eye with all the commotion and horses running around. Cali has done such a great job with her and Reina paid attention the whole time and looked to Cali for support. Way to go! She placed 3rd out of 14 in the In-Hand Trail.
Then she did Suitability for Dressage (walk/trot English). There were 6 or 7 in the class and I believe she placed 2nd or 3rd. Super job! I was on a different course at the time so did not get to see most of it.
Then she showed Trail Horsemanship Level I and placed 7th out of 18. She was fairly nervous being on the course by herself but tried real hard. She was a little sticky and anxious at some of the obstacles that she aced in the In-Hand.
Then there was Rev - who was aptly named for the day! He was such a show off and it took an hour and a half in the warm up to get him to walk on a loose rein - the stinker! I was glad I had made the decision to bit him because he was so energized I needed a little more to get his attention. He piaffed in place when we tried to stand still and would even rear up a little. Everyone was taken by him and kept asking his breeding. All the judges loved him and each one wanted to ride him! First we did In-Hand Trail (Level II) and placed 1st out of 6! He did super well and was calm and relaxed...when not under saddle. Here he is with Regan, waiting for our turn - such a cute picture!
Then we did our group Suitability for Dressage (western walk/trot/canter). Our group was full of western pleasure type horses so we basically lapped everyone at the walk, trot and canter (especially the canter!). I was a bit surprised we even placed because Rev did not want to stay at the first trot - he kept looking at me out of the corner of his eye and jumping into a canter transition - brat! I felt bad having to pass everyone all the time or making circle after circle! We placed 3rd out of 7.
Then we did our Dressage Test...well, we did our best. It was 3:30 by this time and it started to get really windy and rain. I wanted to show him in the cavesson instead of the bit because I felt I was just in his mouth way too much. He blew me off so we had to go back to the bit. I had to laugh because during the tests at the end of the day, the riders on the Thoroughbred were all saying their horse were out of gas - well, mine was on his third or fourth wind for crying out loud! We had to redo one of our circles and whip off a hindquarter as he tried to do a "working trot" right out of the in gate but he still placed 2nd with a score of 76.
Right after that we had to head straight to the trail course of Trail Horsemanship Level II. He was about done with me by then, let me tell you! He still placed 3rd out of 6, even though he walked right off the bridge instead of halting (which I backed him right back on!) and I think the trot to the judge was more of a running passage!!
The best part was at the end of the day they give an award for Best Horsemanship
to a competitor. They presented the award to our whole group! I was super proud of everyone and all the hard work they've all put in. It was a big thrill for all of us.
The most shocking part of the day was Rev getting High Point! It surely was a special day for all of us and a great day to get the Kigers out there!
