She looks like a big filly! Very nice Bobbe! This is out of your boy isn't it? Looks like she's already a week old. Your mare did a nice job with her even if she was secretive about it.

She looks red dun to me from that red mane, what do you think? I can see her arm bars on her upper leg already too. Very nice girl and I like the name! She's awfully cute with her matching halter and blanket!

The weather this week was down right crazy, but your little girl looks great in her coat and is cute as a button. She is shapping up very nice, a good start for your stallion.

I've been wondering about her color Dianne. All I know for sure is that the sire is a Dun - his dorsal is reddish to black with dark bi-colored mane and tail and the dam is a Dun black dorsal, bi-colored mane and tail. As they both came from the wild, we wondered what we would get.
The other mare is the one I really wonder about. She is out of my Dun mare and Silverado and her color has varied several times in the last 2 years. I have called her bay and dark dun. She has a dorsal visible all year, dark stockings and her coat is now turning almost black as she sheds out of her winter coat. No sign of grey but she is not 4 yet. Percentages seem to say the foal should be dun, but if the red dun comes from my stallion who knows what we will get. The mare's face and parts of her body keep gettng darker. Countershading? Sooty gene? I will start a page for this mare and post some good shots of her coat and the changes.

I'll get a new picture or two posted this weekend, but all the reddish mane and forelock has not gotten much darker and blacker and we are starting to see darker areas above her hooves, so I think we have a Dun. My stallion has a reddish dorsal much of the year where the dam's dorsal is black. My stallions mane has a reddish color accent color to the black.
She keeps mom busy and is always taking off across the big pasture to explore. In typical Kiger fashion when she comes across something new she has to investigate before seh accepts it and then she is fine. She used to run when our truck drove between the two pastures, not she comes to see the truck.
