I just love her color, and mama is good looking too.... who is the father of the filly, what breed is he (father) and what are your plans for her.

Our Kiger stallion Chinook is the sire so she is all foundation bred. I think she is going to take after him strongly. Once we see a little more of how she develops she will be for sale. I like to give a baby name to a foal and then give it a permanent name after a little time. This girl will be Star until she gets her grown up name. She'll have all kinds of nicknames too.

well she is something wonderful I bet. Star fits her, and they tend to come into their own name. I just love how she looks. Nola

Dianne, Wow! You did it again! What a lovely filly after all of that worry. You know how I love the blacks. With the brown hairs around the eyes and the fawn in the ears, I'd bet on dark grullo that appears black like Chinney. Whatever color she turns out to be she will be turning heads. It will be fun to see how she ends up. By the way, does the line form on the right or on the left to place an offer to buy her. Congratulations! Linda D

Offers accepted gladly! She will be a head turner. But even better is her great temperament, like Chinny she's very calm and easy going. Chinny and Calista have a nick I think. With Rio and Chickadee as siblings I think she will be wonderful.

Okay, all I need to do is win the lottery and the line starts behind me.
Seriously Diane, she is a charmer. I too will watch for your updates. Congratulations! I have long admired Chinny.

I notice that her coat has a frosting on the tips, gives it kind of a grizzled appearance like the coat of a grulla where each hair is multicolored. But her undercoat, nose and around her eyes is black. I think she will shed out black and stay that way. Such a sweetheart. Here is a picture a friend took on Monday.

I take the sheets off on nice days and will be taking them off the big horses for good soon now. We had so much rain and wind here last fall that they went on much sooner than usual and they didn't get really heavy coats. We have snow still in the foothills nearby and even when its around 50 the wind is fierce and I find myself diving for my down coat.

Update on our new filly. We're down to choosing between two names, Risa (Reeza) which means laughter, and Quil Ceda (Quill for short) which is Chinook jargon. Here she is yesterday at three weeks. Yes, she really is that big.

If I did not know better I would think Calista slipped out the back and got freaky with a Friesian....LOL ;D Your not so little black filly, sure looks the part with the exception of her pretty little head. She looks wonderful, I would have a hard time choosing just the perfect name for such a cute filly myself.

With Santana at 16.2 and growing like a weed as he comes four and Prairie and Teanna just reaching for the sky in height I'm pretty sure this girl will be over 16hh. Chinny is a big boy, he doesn't measure tall, just 15hh but he wears a 78 or 80 sheet so he's a lot of horse. I think second and third generation from the wild we are seeing what these horses can really be with good nutrition throughout their in-utero and first year development. It will be interesting to see what these girls produce when they are bred. I've been breeding every other year, largely because of the market. But it sure makes a difference when the mares nurse their foals all through the winter and into the spring. Its mostly comfort nursing but the extra protein and calcium is making a huge difference in size. If Cedar doesn't have a filly I'll call this girl Quil Ceda Creek, call name Quill. Its the name of a local creek whose name I've loved for a long time and also a soon to be famous local winery.
