Great story! LOVE his rich mahogany bay coat! Kitty certainly has ever right to be proud of her boy! Here is a picture of his grandsire Sulphur's Chance: Video of Sulphur's Chance: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vyGnfsPf-AChance was born in 1988 and gathered off of the Sulphur Springs HMA in 1994. My filly this year is also a Sulphur's Chance grandkid Your boy has a lot of aunties, uncles, and cousins out there in the Sulphur and SM world. The Chance lined horses tend to be rather bold and more independent. Is your boy like that?

What a great story and kudos to you for making sure everything went so well - you got a gorgeous boy out of her!! No matter he does not have stripes - a good horse is a good horse.
Too bad Sulphers' Chance is not homozygous for all those pretty stripes though - he sure is a looker.

Thanks! Miracle is very bold, courageous, inquisitive and mischievious. He's got a sense of humor and is very sweet as well. He and Kitty are in the geriatric herd because Kitty is fiercely protective of him and has gone down a couple of time in muddy patches in the main herd pasture when a fence was taken down (one time by Miracle, little turd). Now, though, Miracle will stand guard over Mom if anyone pushes her. The summer pasture they're in now is nice and calm, although I think Miracle would like to play more. He was a real handful from the moment he hit the ground and was quite precocious in his hormones. We ended up having to geld him at 3 months because he was mounting and riding Kitty (more than just the occasional time) and "stallion biting" her (trying to drive her) which was aggravating her injuries. The vets were AMAZED at how much ketamine it took (1000# dose) just to get him down for the snip, and then he was back up more quickly than any horse they'd seen. He won't put up with rough handling (nor will I!!!) and can read people like no horse I've known. He won't have anything to do with someone that doesn't have a kind heart. We joke that there's a "Bay Curse" on the barn, because Chris's Dun mare was bred to her own Dun stallion (both have thrown nothing but duns) and her filly came out Bay. She says Miracle's color changed in eutero because he came to the "Bay Barn". Ha-Ha. I was really hoping for Dun... and lots of stripes... but he is beautiful and has totally changed my feelings about Bay. I know - color preference is silly because it NEVER defines the horse. Actually, my Appy, Spirit, is technically a Bay as well: a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/74368_1549787638246_1641758908_1209154_6760539_n.jpg [/img] Because his few spots are chestnut and the very tips of his ears are black: I didn't register Spirit with ApHC (at the time I was still on Active Duty and by the time I decided I'd like to I no longer had his sire) but there is no such color as "few spot leopard". He would be "Bay with white over body". Spirit is also one of the very sweetest horses I've ever known. I adore him. Chance was drop dead gorgeous. I've looked at his pages on the Sulphur Horse site. What an amazing boy! There was no service memo when Kitty was bred, nor do I think his sire was ever registered. I was told by the original owner, who was also Dancer's breeder, what his pedigree is along with the info that Kitty wasn't supposed to be bred. That happened after they gave her away and they were very surprised and disappointed. (They parted with Dancer at the same time). Dancer was gelded, broke to ride and is now doing well as a saddle horse. The last record I can find of his dam, Kiger Desert Eagle, was that she was owned by Vineyard Equus in Southern Oregon, but I don't know where she is now. She was also Dun. Thanks so very much for your posts! ~ Elsa

No Chance was not homozygous for the dun gene nor was he homozygous black. He sired many claybank colored foals as well as a bay mare named Tierra. Here she is when she was just a filly: Though now that I am looking at Chance's markings, it sure looks similar to Catarina's markings on her legs. Although, her mom isn't exactly missing much in the stripes department. Here is one of Miracle's relatives: A gal named Connie Flory up in Oregon owned Sulphur's Chance when he died back in 2003. She also has Kigers and a mare that apparently her dad (?) paid $19k for back at the 1999 (?) adoption. She owns another Kiger mare (don't know the name) besides that mare and also Sulphur's Corderio Cruz who came from the 2001 Sulphur adoption. I think that she also owns a couple Sulphur's Chance daughters out of Kiger mares. She is absolutely in love with the Sulphurs and wont stand her stallion Cruz to outside mares. Here is Cruz (only photo I have unfortunately): The gal that owned Chance before Connie was a lady named Erin Gray who also lives in Oregon. She just gelded her Portuguese Sorraia stallion and is still looking to sell him (anyone want a Sorraia?). So, either of those two gals might be able to give information on the pedigree of Miracle and confirm it.

;D Thank you all so very much for the info, kind words and shared photos! I just adore my horses, Kigers and non. I'll have to send Star a message and see if she still has Desert Eagle. I am excited about going to the 2011 Adoption. I have a feeling that I'll come home empty handed as it looks like there will be a lot of competition out there. I was hoping to bring home a filly 4-6 month old filly. I, like everyone else, am in love with 1200 - the little grulla orphan Andi is raising. Somehow I think she will remain a "dream horse" for me, though. Grulla + cuteness + gentled probably = way more $$ than I have. I'm happy with mine... and I KNOW you all understand the want of another. Boy, Catarina has AMAZING leg barring! Thank you for the pictures of Miracle's cousins. Off to go do the milking and take my son to the Fair. Clatsop County Fair can be seen in about an hour. He wants to hit the carnival. :-)

I just now came across this post I still have Eagle, I would love to see the foal she had when we bought her. You can contact me thru our facebook page, or facebook messanger which is the best way or our email lnpranch@gmail.com I do not have a web page currently, just the facebook page. We are working on a ranch page, but we are not longer breeding horses as to many horses are going to Slaughter including one of our beloved kigers that were supposed to be going to their forever home. Anyway I have all kinds of photos of Eagle and what ever you need. She is now having neurological issues with her walking but she is doing good for now.
