Let me guess... They decided to haul back a load to the east coast for adopters! I talked to Patti about it, but it was undecided at the time!

While I haven't heard any official announcement yet, I'm betting you're right Amanda. I didn't talk to anyone from the BLM and figured that might be the important news. Much better than my initial thought. Karen

After several emails discussing the matter, I received an email last night from the BLM at Burns saying they will send Kigers East that are adopted on 10/8 for us eastern adopters. It makes sense since the horses that don't get adopted go on the internet adoptions later, and they do send those horses East. They said the announcement would come out today, but I haven't seen it anywhere yet. I guess governmental wheels turn a little slowly. I would guess they likely want a minimum number of horses adopted from the East in order to make it financially feasible. But that shouldn't be a problem. Unless things cause us to change our minds, we plan to adopt 5-6 young ones and get them to Ohio. Lets' keep our eyes open for the announcement.

Bill...maybe they can drop off in Pauls Valley, OK on the way east - would also make a big difference on folks who adopt. Since I am already hauling back horses and don't have room for wild ones - I would surely buy a couple if I could pick them up in OK.

Toni, I'm hoping you still need hauling even though the BLM is shipping east? I need to make sure I still have people that need me to drive, or else I'm not going to be able to afford the gas to make the trip!

Here is the pertinent information I got from the BLM this morning in an email newsletter
BLM OFFERS [FREE] ORGANIZED HAULING EASTWARD FOR KIGER ADOPTION
The BLM is offering to ship a load of adopted Kiger/Riddle mustangs east, following the October 8, 2011 Kiger Kraze adoption event in Hines, Oregon. Horses will be transported to three locations: Elm Creek, Nebraska; Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; and Piney Woods, Mississippi. Adopters participating in the free-hauling opportunity must pick their horses up at 1 of these locations – these are the ONLY pick-up locations available for this offer. No other special arrangements will be made for hauling/drop-off/etc.
Mares with foals on their side will not be shipped. In their journey east, horses will be unloaded and loaded several times to allow for adequate rest, feed and water. Adopters will be responsible for any injury or vet care during and after shipment. Adopters are expected to pick up their horses after being notified by the receiving facilities. Facilities will set up an appointment with the adopters.
PLEASE CONTACT THE BURNS DISTRICT OFFICE (respond to this email) IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS HAULING OPPORTUNITY. LET ME KNOW YOUR NAME, THE NUMBER OF HORSES YOU EXPECT TO ADOPT, and WHERE YOU PLAN TO PICK THEM UP AT (and don’t forget to get your adoption application in so you can actually be a qualified bidder/adopter!).
EVENT VENDORS AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT KIGER KRAZE 2011
If you are interested in vendor booth space at Kiger Kraze 2011, please contact Ramona Bishop at the Burns District BLM office: 541-573-4439 or rbishop@blm.gov. There are approximately 20 vendor spaces available.
We are also looking for volunteers to help out at the event….answer adopter questions, help with paperwork, bid card runner, bid spotters, etc. Please let Ramona know if you can help out at this event! We appreciate you!

Is anyone heading to the adoption from the Dallas, TX area or heading through Dallas? I'm just looking for a ride. (don't need trailer space) I'm willing to help pay for gas. Or maybe if someone wants to ride with me in my car, it would be about $450 in gas round trip. Wish I could take my Durrango because it is a much more comfortable ride/ drive plus it can tow a trailer but it would cost over $800 in gas without a trailer!

Last chance! I'm leaving next Sunday and headed west. Anyone need a ride going either direction? I have room both ways, and I REALLY would like to haul at least one more to help fund my trip and work required on my truck. Pass my number out if anyone knows a horse that needs a ride. 828-458-7327. Amanda
