Hi all,
We spent two days on the Kiger HMA and watched them gather between 110-120 Kigers. We all thought it went well. I am amazed at how slowly the copter could move the horses along and they took extra care when there were small foals ( there were a few under 4 months). we saw one grulla stallion run through the trap wing to freedom. He resisted and eventually headed for the hill. There were two copters working together for much of the gather and with the hills there it makes good sense.
Day one the horss from N and S Hills. They came down Riddle creek on the east side of the creek and we were above them on a bluff so although the trap was not huge in our viewfinders we could see when they had made it to the holding pen.
Day two we were in the main canyon between Poison Spring and Wood
Camp Resevoir on a bluff - same side as the resevoir with a great view and the horses today came from several directions.
We saw the horses at the temporaty holding/sorting corrals and I apologize for pictures taken through the fence, but we kept our distance so as not to spook them. Sue Catoor answered questions both days and explained which horse were going to Burns and which would be released. I will post a few pictures here and have so much more to tell, but we are exhausted so I will post again when we get home. We saw some very nice horses and one band was comprised of many grullas. We will be at the corrals tomorrow morning when they unload the rest of today's horses so we will take pictures there too.
