It seems Buck is finally coming my way this weekend. I have seen so many clinicians watched so many trainers I would be shocked to see anything new. I am only excited to see the movie as a documentary as what drives a person to work with horses, become a trainer and help others. There are so many horse owners that need help and if you know the horse world, you know they can be a tuff crowd. I get asked alot why I don't give lessons and such, I did my tour of 4-H and horse shows/clubs started getting jaded needed a time out. I have seen new trainers come in all excited bending over backwards for clients then before to long their attitude is take or leave it, don't ask if you don't want my opinion. Alot of folks don't like to hear "it's not the horse, it's you"

Don't worry, this isn't a preachy type of movie. I know what you mean though. I get a little sick of the "my way or the highway" attitude from some of these guys too. It's an interesting documentary on Buck's life, with bits from his clinics tossed in. He seems like a genuinely kind man. "Buck" is definitely worth watching. I think they have it on Netflix if it's not playing anywhere close by. Oh, and my favorite quote was "Horses are a mirror to your soul."

I was surprised by the honesty. No sugar coating, no picture perfect version with everyone smiling, including the horses. It was about a real person teaching real people, some of whom were not so great with horses. There was a vicious, untouched stallion, raised without a herd or dam and bottle-fed in the house at birth, that attacked someone and had to be hauled off to be put down as he had injured them. His owner had not gotten any training for him or gelded him, in fact she had 18 stallions at home. Really made me think about my commitment to my horses to make sure they get the training to be successful in life. My favorite saying is when a horse is acting up a lot and Buck compares him to a kid who takes out the garbage when you make him but gives you the finger as he does it.

OK, so no horsey husbands should see this movie. Mine only took one thing away from it, the crazy horse trying to take the face off a trainer.

Well, for what it's worth that "trainer" was a hundred kinds of dumb- I would NEVER have stood around that horse's pen/gate or turned my back on him the way the guy who got bit did (and he did it and had to be reminded several times ?!?!).
But yeah- I don't think I'll let my non-horsey boyfriend see it. But isn't funny how worried men folk get about horses and how dangerous it all is- yet if we say the same thing when they get on a motorcycle or something they act like we're non-sensical worry warts, haha.

Yeah. I thought later that Buck should have had a rope on its foot, like they did previously. Not just walk in and think OK everything is going to be fine. I hope that stupid owner did have him put down. She had 18 studs at home!
