The horses have been bored in this rainy weather. I let Fantasy out and she had them running around the pasture. I direct her and try and keep them from the muddiest areas so no one is slipping and falling. At least they get some exercise and burn off some energy. Though my camera was attempting to die on me I did get a few snapshots I love this one of Fantasy and Super you can really compare their strides at the extended trot.

What a fun time for everyone! Super sure has a nice big stride! Bet he's going to be lots of fun to ride. Are there special things to know about training a mule? I would bet that are some differences.

I have chosen a little of everything I have learned from several horse training methods. Also I don't disipline for the wrong answer in training, we just start over and try again and you will do fine training your mule. However when it comes to disipline for absolutely unexceptable behaviors it is all in the timing. If you let a bad behavior slip past you because you opps weren't paying attention or in my case. I am simply not strong enough to stop Super from bolting on the lead. They will continue to do that behavior until you come up with a plan to remedy it quickly. I always feared the old saying "don't hurt your mule they will hurt you back and when you least expect it". So I check my emotions when training Super, though he may frustrate me at times. Still the best way to cure a wrong with a mule is quick fair disipline and then back to business. If he crowds your space you can give Super a good smack in the shoulder and tell him to back off and he is not going to hold it against you. As a two year old he is always testing his bounderies. Once Super knows a behavior well in my book like backing up and I ask if he refuses then I will reinforce it with a firm tap of the rope or dressage whip. JUst like most equine Left sided Super is an awesome mule we should be trained in no time right sided Super is the bolter and just has to argue first, but he eventually give in to my way ;D

Love it I still can't believe how big Super is. Do you have an idea of where he will top off at?
