Yeah! Kevin brought Rio home this evening. Rio didn't spend more than 30 seconds still for the first hour. After Quil came and grazed on her side of the set-back fence about 15 feet away he settled down. Not sure if she was infatuated or guarding the rest of the herd from the "intruder". He did a beautiful shoulder-in at a trot for about 50 yards down the fence to impress the girls. Since it was raining and there was a bunch of post covers in one picture I made it a watercolor.

Not quite sure Michelle. I don't ride anymore and he's related to my girls, except for Sedona. So my immediate goal is give him room to move in a pasture and to work with him.

Have you ever considered hiring a rider? I have a friend that is unable to ride. In order to promote her stallions in the past she like so many other breeders hire young riders or trainers to ride or show her horses in the show ring. She accompanies them of course. Of course you could do the in hand stuff halter, showmanship or at liberty routines, so much can be done from the ground with our horses.

Just wondering but is Rio related to Charro in any way? If you want him to get ridden and shown a lease or co-ownership might work, but of course you would have to find the right person for it.

Charro is his maternal granddad - Calista is Rio's dam and Chinook is his sire. Good combination. I've worked for a number of years to get this boy back. Right now I'm just going to enjoy him. I'm not much for showing. Give me a summer evening out in the pasture with the herd, now that's fun.

Couple more photos, I call this the tracking trot. This shows a bit of his suspension at the trot.

He sure is a handsome guy! Haley, I see the Charro in him too, in the angles and in his face! He's a good lookin' horse. I have a feeling he will exceed in anything that he is put to- whether it be strutting his stuff for the mare's or for the judges in the show ring! Impressive Dianne!

It's the maternal grandfather effect in action I think. He's built a lot like Charro, especially the greater angle of his croup, his neck and he has a great wither (yeah!). He's very flexible too. I haven't spent any time around Charro, but his head is just like Chinook's to me, perhaps slightly straighter in profile. Thanks for the compliments. Even as a month old colt I would exclaim to him "dang, you are CUTE!" every time I'd see him. I had to chose between him and Bravo, and I should have kept them both.

You definately see Charro's reach and flexibility in Calista and in Rio as well. I agree to that his head looks a lot like Chinooks. Are there any plans of Rio standing to the public for stud?

Not at the moment. I'm leasing land so am not there 24/7 to watch over everything. But I'll find a way for that to happen, maybe by AI.
