Congrats! He sure is pretty and seems to have a great disposition, having met him briefly a few times. My husband and I have been watching his price creep down, and it's been tempting to think about getting him. Glad that he found a new home.

Sale must've fallen through? We saw him listed again on Sacramento Craigslist. We went to see him the other night and he really is a lovely boy. Very nice disposition, nice looking, kind eye. We're interested in him, but don't know about taking on a stallion and it would be a shame to cut such a lovely boy.

Kiger stallions are rather easy to deal with most of the time. I would take him in a heartbeat but am not allowed to own a stallion by my family There are a lot of people out there that would be willing to help you with him, and keep him intact. The attitude of a "stallion" sometimes comes from they way they are handled. I knew one that was hard to deal with and was becomming a threat. his trainer got fired and miraciously his attitude changed completely and now he is the sweetest and most docile thing out there.

Part of it is us not having experience handling stallion. Part of it is simply space management. We have 17 acres but haven't even finished our perimeter fence. Much less cross fencing and a stallion pasture.
Newbie question, will a stallion get along w/ a gelding if the mares are pasture away, or must the stallion have his own pasture?

they should get along fine the stallion will figure out pretty quick that there is no competition with the gelding and the gelding probably wont be too interested in the mares unless he was cut really late. As far as fencing goes, a simple pannel corral will work just fine to contain him until all is finished.

There should be a road or empty pasture between the mare and stallion so they don't try the "through the fence" method. Good way to take don a fence and get a horse injured. Doesn't have to be a big separation, so they can't touch noses though.
