So a friend and I were discussing it the other day, and I said I thought dilute colors didn't really exist in Kigers. Then I showed her a pic of Gringo, one of the colts on this site. He's Perlilno, correct? So doesn't that mean he had to get a cream gene from each parent? So does that mean Kigers have dilute genes? I have seen black, bay, grey, dun, and red dun, but never palomino...

Actually, dun is a dilute. I have not, however, in my 22 years involved with Kigers, seen or heard of any Kigers who have been color tested to carry cream, nor have I seen any with hazel eyes indicative of cream, or any palomino full Kigers. I don't know about gringo's true color, but I think he's only like 1/4 Kiger. sire, lusitano and dam was 1/2 Kiger. So he could very well have 2 cream genes, and considering his color, most likely does! Michelle, have you had him color tested?

Nope, have not had Gringo color tested yet...kind of waiting until after his first foals (due in April!). I like the surprise of it!
Yes, he is only 1/4 Kiger. Sycha is a Charro daughter and out of a Beattys' Butte mare (still can't find out which mare). Two of Sychas other foals appear to have the creme also. Vistosa was born with violet colored eyes and smokey colored ears even though she appears black looking. A dilute breeder happened to be at our place when she was a day old and commented she was a smokey black. Her next foal, Chiva, was born looking like a buckskin with the violet eyes but shed out a very light grulla. Last years filly did not have any of those characteristics. So, I am sure Sycha hides the creme gene as Kim said.
