Has anyone on here used a cashel soft saddle? Any pro's and con's of using one? I am looking to work more on my balance and have a more comfy ride on the trails:) And less for my boy to carry always helps:) Thanks!

I have one I use on my stallion Ki while trail riding and I LOVE it! It took awhile to get used to, and works best with a thin sticky pad or blanket under it ( cashel made a pad specifically for it but I have not been able to get one ). They can slip while mounting, but Ki is real good about siding up to just about anything for me to get on. I am a huge fan of my softsaddle. Kim

Yes, I am an owner of the Cashel soft saddle as well. Here is a few photos I took right after I made the purchase several yrs ago, now it comes in a larger variety of colors. I had tried it on the Appy mare I used to own Now a days when I ride with it I also use a thin pad, to absorb moisture and keep my horse cool. I also use a breast collar to help keep it in place. I have a regular western rope cinch I use with it. There is nothing more comfy for my bum, then the soft saddle. The stirrups can be removed, so it becomes a glorified bareback pad or you can use them but I find they are not very stable, much like an english saddle you have to have some leg strength to keep them in proper postion at the faster gaits. I notice it because I am used to my western saddle fenders that are stiffer and less work for my legs. Still I enjoy heading out on trail rides on a reliable horse with the soft saddle I can feel my horse under me as well. I have used it in the arena as a tool to get better leg strength and balance when riding. It is also light as air. It does slip while mounting so use a mounting block, but once mounted I rarely experience any slipping.
