This morning, all was not well here on the farm. Not only was there not nearly as much water missing from the trough as there should have been, lil Picaro walked away from his grain, pawed and began circling to lay down. Vet was called out, while we waited, a friend came over, we gave him banamine, he stopped pawing some but was still very uncomfortable. One very small BM that took a lot of effort. Got some warm water and oil into him. He's still too small to get an arm in, but after listening to gut sounds, or lag thereof on the left side, we decide to tube him and pump him full of warm water and mineral oil. He was a champ through the whole thing. Still no new poopies, but he's decidedly more 'at ease'. I'm checking on him regularly, poor guy is NOT happy about being locked in a stall. Please send him all the get better soon thoughts you can!

Did the vet suggest keeping him moving? Its rare for Kigers to colic although I have seen sand (mud) colic. Poor boy, wishing him well from here.

Sorry to hear about Picaro! Hope everything turns out well for you.....I thought vets usually want them to keep moving around? Do they just think it's dehydration colic from it being so cold outside? I know colic from roundworms is more prevalent in foals. Did they have any clue why? Poor little baby, I hope he's doing much much better!

Deffinately dehydration. No change yet, except that he's had one more small BM. Refusing fluids, refusing warm mashes, making Mommy as worried as possible

Well, he's only half Kiger, the other half is the hypochondriac TB.... Poor little man, I wish I was closer so I could come help! Me and Picaro's mommy and daddy are sending healing vibes your way!

I think T Man sent more of a "Quit making our breed look bad!" vibe Poopies. Drinkies. Tinklies. Munchies (on wetted down hay and nice warm soaked mashy nomnoms) He's baaaaack! I'm elated! And exhausted. Cold+stress+not sleeping well for the last several weeks = now that I can breathe, I'm going to crash hard....and also am not making much sense.

Yeah!! Are you relieved or what? Nothing scarier than a colicky horse. So glad he came through nicely. I've read that now is a good time to give a tube of probiotics.
