Looks like a Sulpher to me- the thicker legs and profile on the head. Plus the coloring/markings seem more consistent with Sulpher's I've seen. But I wouldn't be surprised if he was a Pryor, Kiger, mustang... etc...

I am going to say Kiger from the Riddle herd - the heavier legs and the head.

This is River. He is not yet registered. He was about 5 years old in the photo. He is a 2003 Kiger from the Kiger HMA. He was adopted in 2007. He is currently here in Arkansas, about 20 minutes from me. It is planned for my little Faith to be bred to him in the near future.

Very nice! Great to hear about more Kigers in our area (I'm in Oklahoma). If you or River's owners ever want to get together for any of the regional breed expos (like Kansas has Equifest coming up)- please let me know. They can be a lot of fun. :-)

River, that sounds familiar ..didn't Kevin halter train a Kiger Mustang adoptee named River, before sending it out to his owner?

I believe they are just now starting him under saddle. It took them a couple of years to get him completely gentled and managable. He has a very kind eye and quiet nature. I hope they will keep his training moving forward. I am anxious to see how he will be under saddle. It would be a shame for him to continue being a pasture ornament.

My guess was pretty much the same as dunbnwild, except I wasn't really thinking sulphur.
Be sure to check out Bravo as a potential boyfriend too, he is making quite a name for himself.

I hope Bravo will stay where he is for a while. I would love the chance to have a Bravo foal some day. He is beautiful and proving himself to be more than a pretty face.

Under Mystery Horse #9 prizmblue says, " the horse does look familiar - does that sound silly in a world where most of the horses look related on a basic level?". Well I have that feeling about this horse, but I think it is because he looks so much like my mare Conchetta! I so wish they would keep the foals with the mommas at the corrals until they are all numbered, so we could identify which weanling came off which mare. I adopted my mare at the 2003 adoption, and surely one of those foals was hers. This stallion has her hip, shoulder and head. I wonder if he has been DNA tested? I would love to correspond with the owner if he has been, and compare notes :-)

The last time I went to see River was in September, I believe. at that time, they had not yet applied for his registration, so I am sure he has not been DNA'd yet. They do intend to register him. I hope they will get it done this coming spring. I do wish there was a way to connect some of these horses to their relatives. It would be nice to know who came from who. If he does get DNA'd in the near future, I will let you know. Maybe his owner would be willing to connect with you, and try to see if your mare is related.
