Not sure if any of you Oregon/Washington folks have been following this story about the severly neglected Lusitano's/Andalusian's in Oregon at Carpe Diem Farm - huge mess. This is a ladies blog that is keeping up with it andalusianhorseclub.com/?p=231

I've had many dealing with these folks back in the day. It is a shame that it has come to this but I will say that what comes around goes around. It is just too bad that the horses have to suffer.
I hope if they auction them they will be able to remove them from the Troy ranch first. It is hell to get up there to see the horses and I can't imagine trying to trailer in winter to load up. This would help to be able to get the horses to better homes quicker.
It is not too far from Manfords' place...

Well that sounds like a mess. I hope they can get those horses out of there!

Man this story is just crazy, nobody reporting on it really seems to know exactly what happened at this breeding farm. Believe it or not their website is still up and running too. I went on it and found that two of their stallions are half siblings to Saphiro through the sire Umbaba. I really hope these horses find loving homes.

Yes...one of those siblings, Odin, was going to be sold to us by the original owner. Byrde came to our place and down talked him for three days when she found that out. Next I know, she called the gal up and bought him out from underneath us.

Wow i had no idea about that. Shes seems almost like a hoarder when it comes to these horses of hers. Somebody posted a comment on a blog about trying to purchase one of her horses, which was amaciated, and offered a very reasonable price but she absolutely refused. Are you thinking of looking at Odin again now that he will be brought up for auction most likely?

I doubt it...he's got to be close to eighteen or so and lord knows how many trainers have had their hands on him (knowing her...). I saw pictures today from a gal that worked out there three years back and most of the babies looked like badly bred crossbreds. Being a crossbred breeder myself, I can tell they are third and fourth generation by now with no rhyme or reason. She had a bunch of grade QH type mares (colored ones!) that she was crossing and many of what she produced was not quallity, even back eleven years ago. Most of the pictures of what I saw did not look spanish, much less iberian. Many of the mares and stallions looked like crossbreds too. Lots of pretty colors though...

Its kind of sad that color matters so much more than conformation nowadays. Doesn't she sound like that lady who crossed her shetland mare with one of her lusitano stallions. She has like belgians, spotted drafts, QHs, and TBs, and lots of grades with color. The best horse i saw on her sight was a paint lusitano cross, she actually looked more iberian than his purebred offspring.

Yeah...I know who you are talking about. Another crazy color breeder! I read from a gal that worked out at the place in Oregon that the gal was convinced she had the "blue gene" that comes from Pegasus narrowed down and that any time now, she would have foals with wings...
