Your little guy reminds me of my filly; This was Isabell three years ago. I was hoping for an apricot dun, and it took a while for me to decide she was just dun. She is a very peachy color to this day, but the black in the main and tail is now prominent. Her dorsal and lower legs though are reddish brown.

I was not sure how to explain the colt - filly mixup, except to say that I took Rick's word for it when SHE was born and due to lack of sleep and the dark I did not discover the error until a day later. He is not an expert when it comes to horses, but gosh, you would think he had the sex thing figured out by now ;D. I have been so busy at work that the last thing I want to do is use a computer in my off time so it took me a while to correct this and admit we goofed. So she is doing well and we have the horses pastured together so they all have access to shelter. I find her with Fit dozing side by side, or with Pele hanging out. Ginger keeps her foals close for about two weeks and then relaxes her vigil and lets the others help her keep watch. This foal kept her busy running off frequently to explore. She is changing color and I think is a dun, the red is being replaced with dark color and she is getting much darker around her eyes. She still looks red in this pic, but it was cute so I posted it anyway. She is about two weeks old here.

Well SHE is absolutely adorable in that picture ;D and you are not alone in making that mistake in trusting the word of another, in the dark...LOL. So I am sorry you did not get your colt, but I really love the fillies, they are so much fun.

We got a good laugh out of this and ANY mistakes my husband makes are more than offset by his unfailing support of my dreams. He is the glue that allows me to do this. He is my repair man, horse hauler, hay stacker and irrigation specialist and more.
I don't care that it is a filly, I like them all and she will be for sale, not to be kept anyway so we will enjoy her antics.

That is pretty funny. We will get confused as well when we have foaled out more than one foal in a week. Generally it is really late at night, so that really doesn't help with the memory.

Ahh, I made that mistake too....Had a still pretty wild mare that was pregnant when we got her...I didn't want to take too much time inspecting the foal and thought it was a filly, but it was a colt...OOPS....
Any names yet for your little princess? She's very cute....

Made that mistake too, the boy parts are pretty high when they are born. Now I count holes.

Yep, i've done it too. When Casino was born I was gone, and when I came home the next morning my niece and sister were there and the told me "it's a girl!!"" i took thier word for it and emailed all my friends about my new filly!! then later while I was cleaning his stall he peed and it was all wrong for a girl! You aren't alone Bobbe! And BTW... she is just lovely.

Diane, going back a bit to answer your question, Isabelle is by Kiger Tiger 1, red dun. My mare, Conchetta came out of the wild pregnant, and went full term and delivered a still born red dun colt, so I know she has it in her.

Hi Bobbe, any new pictures? It's going to be a while before we have more foals to awe over.

Two is doing very well. I do so love these babies. She is quite the social butterfly and likes to hang out with dad and her half sister. The first shot is the three of them heading up to see the TWH geldings next door. Two had never met them so they flew up the hilll to get acquainted. Her stockings are developing differently than the other foals we've had. Her legs are just turning black all at once pretty much. Kinda cool and I guess that removes the question about her being a red dun.
