With mules there really is alot of waiting and alot of repitition. I don't know about Indy when he was younger but Super has a very strong flight response, if something is not right or scarey he is out of there. Mules are known for self preservation only age and experience makes them more brave and reliable. They may learn quickly and it is good thing because you have to teach them lessons in every new situation. For example Super is great with the farrier tied to his tree out in the arena. If I were to bring Super in the barn and ask the farrier to trim his feet we would get some resistance and have to train Super to except getting his feet trimmed in the barn. So for me the next few years will be lots of ground work, ponying him out on the trails, introducing him to driving. Just building his confidence so when the time comes to get in the saddle his enviroment won't be so frightening. Which in turn I hope lessens my odds of being on the back of bucking, bolting frightened mule.

I've actually used some of your experiences with Super to console my friend with Indy's less than perfect responses to her methods. She' a good horse person & has trained with an Olympic Dressage team member and worked on a thourobred breeding ranch but Indy is a whole different trip for her.And yes, bolting from an unpleasent situation was a real problem with him. He's gotten a lot better as he's gotten older. Super's !/2 brother is amazing looking. No doubt you've got a handsome boy .It's gonna be fun watching him grow!
