Fantasy loves to keep me on my toes and give me a good fright every once in a awhile always at the worst times. Like this week when I had every intention of taking her to a horse show this weekend. I gave her a bath Wed. and went to get her out of the pasture Thurs. afternoon and she was a mess of lumps what looked like bites and my first thought was pigeon fever. But it is the wrong time of year and she is covered in bumps not just one small to large mass as the pics below show. Still I worried so I quarantined her and took these pics sent them to my vet and he says it looks and sounds much more like an allergic reaction. Sense most of the hives and swelling is located at the back end, it is possible the cause is Shapley's MTG. I used it on her tail for the first time ever that Wed. and applied a little at her base of her mane. The vet will be here at noon Saturday to treat her and get her some relief. the pictures

After an administration of steriods antibiotics, Fantasy looks so much better this morning. It was not just a reaction to the MTG, but for the first time a real bad reaction to the 5-way vaccine given' in her chest. So no more of that for Fantasy.

Sorry to hear about Fantasy...glad to hear she is doing better. I've known many spanish type horses that eventually have reactions to the five-ways, sometimes the first go around.

I had a mustang I leased years ago have a bad reaction to Ft. Dodge's adjuvant (helps make it more effective). His neck was so stiff and hard that we had to put his water up where he could reach it. I use 4 way now and only on the youngsters or if they are being shipped to a different part of the country.

How scary! I'm glad it turned out to just be an allergic reaction (although that's no fun either!). I haven't been on this board in a long time, in fact I actually dropped my old account because I didn't use it. Anyway, I have Missy (Miss Daniels) from the Circle S Ranch. When I first bought her, she had a reaction to the shots we gave her as well. I'm glad to know she isn't the only one. I've been very careful about what vaccines we use on her now, and making sure she doesn't get a big dose at once. I guess I should pay attention to the kinds of shampoos we use too. Hopefully Fantasy is feeling much better....and is a little less lumpy Sarah
