We were out last night working our arena as we add in new sand and I took it upon myself to let Calista try it out She was pretty happy at the end when I said Whoa! I always found it interesting that she doesn't raise her tail up above her butt, but she kind of curls it off to the side when she is really excited. I didn't know if this was common with other kigers and I have also see that she loves tossing her head/mane when riled up. I have noticed other kigers doing the same thing, but I haven't seen many other breeds of horses do it the way Calista does. She knows she's one sassy girl. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWzDs8WqMHA

She looks great! Spanish type horses tend curl thier tail (like a waterfall). Off to the side usually means one side of her hindquarters is weaker than the other. Sometimes it falls to the weak side, sometimes the stronger side will pull it over. It can be muscle or skeletal...

Calista is delightful! A few years ago my Kiger mare refused to be caught and my trainer showed up and I just couldn't catch my horse even using the guaranteed to work methods. Finally, the trainer decided to show me how it's done. After a while, Spring let him get about one inch from catching her, bolted away, turned her head back toward him and flipped it in the air. I said, "you just got flipped off Kiger style", laughing my butt off. He had to laugh, too and said, "yea, I know". It was obvious she was "laughing" at him or both of us.

I had a chiropractor look at her once as I thought her back might be out because of the way she carried her tail. Nope, everything was fine. The headtoss can be "I'm bad, really bad" as in a stallion head toss. Or it can be an invitation to play, perhaps to play fight. Chinny did this often as a yearling and one time I did it back to him. He came charging up to me at the canter with his ears pricked, not back at all. I decided that I didn't want to play after all! and put my arms in the air and waved him off. He looked disappointed.
