Took Bravo to our first ABRA show. Unfortunately we were too late for the dun factor color class-but JMHO (of course) he was the most dun horse there :-)
We took first in the beginning trail class--we had to cross a bridge, navigate a complicated cone pattern at a jog, jog over elevated logs, then back through a serpentine of barrels (!!), then another jog pattern through a narrow log "chute" and then return to sidepass over one of the "chute" logs. He did everything perfect except nicking a log or two on the elevated ones. Most of the horses had trouble backing through the barrels and even though most of the horses did the pattern ok, they somehow got DQ'ed--it doesn't take much, I guess. Only 2 of the 5 horses in the class placed. The horse that got 2nd did very well but was a little sloppy on backing through the barrels.
The other classes we entered were various pleasure ones that I knew we wouldn't be competitive at because we just don't have that ridiculous looking lope (sorry but I just don't get that gait and every time I see it I think something is wrong with the horse!! LOL) -- but even so we came away with a fifth and two thirds. Eventually we'll do the reining classes instead.
It was such a great day! Lots of good exposure--I rode Bravo up to the hot dog cart, sidepassed under the blowing umbrella, ordered, paid, picked up my drink, drank it, sidepassed up to the trash can and threw it away--all from his back :-) I'm telling ya--this guy is handy!!
I got to talk up Kigers to a few people--he difinitely got noticed . All were amazed to learn he's a stallion-(he was falling asleep next to a mare in heat at one point, ha ha).
I was so proud of him--he just does whatever I ask no matter how crazy. ;D
