Tiffany, Have you considered trying Fantasy on Spirulina? it is a blue green algae that really helps horses with heaves, boosts the immune system and reduces allergies, improves absorption of other nutrients. It can be fed to infants, so would be safe for your pregnant mare. Can't wait to see that little long ears. Linda D

No I haven't , I have heard of the stuff and it's good qualities I wonder just how much you would feed a horse and where you would go about finding the product in such quanities.

Tiffany, I have used the sea kelp now for 12 years and been very happy with it. I have not had much luck with the blue green algae - been told that horses are either "kelp horses or algae horses", so guess I just have the kelp kind! With what I have been learning as of late, everything comes from the digestive system, including the immune defense. Without this working properly, lots of other stuff comes about - including cancer (seems this is belived to be an actual virus). Addressing diet first seems to be the way to go. Try some of these articles....take your brain food first - very interesting stuff: www.dogtorj.com/id23.htmlWith my Kigers that seem to have this metabolic issue, I am starting by taking certain foods away one at a time to see what works and what does not. With this new feed, I have eliminated sugars and most starches. The feed does have corn in it though, and that may be one thing they cannot have, so we shall see. Desi has always developed a thick, course coat in the winter. He is now shedding and we are in a cold snap - I mean like spring time-brush full of hair shedding. He also has dapples back starting on his belly. He usually walks along with his head low and lumbers, but the last two days, that head is up and there is a snappy spring in his step. I have been working on jumping him some to strengthen his hind end where the EPM has done the most damage, and today he jumped over two feet with much enthusiasum! I am not getting too excited yet, but am hopeful! Michelle
