Super spent some time doing ground work with the farrier today. My daughter took some pictures, so I could share At first Super had the wanted to keep a good distance away. Scout is there for moral support...LOL.
Actually after the farrier gave Scout some attention and treats Super was willing to take some treats from the farrier and let him rub his head.
then I handed over the rope and told the farrier to do all the exercises I do with Super. To start just leading him around, with Super following and the farrier moving away he is less threatening to Super.
It took a little coaxing
but he got it
Then I told him it was time to drive Super forward, learning how to control his feet get Super to walk along side him. So I handed the farrier the stick and Super took the opportunity to bolt..he had to try
I explained to the farrier how to watch Super's body language and stop the bolt way ahead of time and showed him how with the stick he can control Supers forehand and hindquarters all this stuff Super already knows, just nobody does it with him but me. Then let them be, Scout did try and act as a block to keep Super from backing away...LOL
Super just got better, I was happy with how they both did. The farrier was able to rub Super on both sides everywhere with the stick....Super liked him at sticks length away.
My daughter got tired of taking pictures but it ended with Super standing next to the farrier allowing him to rub his head and half way down his neck with hand. He gave Super a treat and we called it a day after I myself ran Super thru' all the exercises to show the farrier how eventually he should be able to make Super behave.
