"An extra pressure, a silent rebuke, an unseen praising, a firm correction: all these passed between us as through telegraph wires." I want to wish you all a Happy New Year. 2010 will be a great year for the Kigers! It's amazing how such a beautiful song can bring something special to an ordinary video. Melissa www.kigeranne.com

Happy New Year to you and to Larry. Thanks for sharing. The video is a bit more than ordinary. Always a delight to see the rapport between You and Sombra, and the new levels that the two of you attain in that partnership.

Thanks Linda. Hopefully Larry and I can film more this spring. I have a few real neat ideas. Karen, Thanks for the compliment, but most of all, THANK YOU for the Herm Sprenger bit. Sombra packs it quite well. It is a very nice bit and will definitely serve a purpose for this type of work with the horses. 2010 will be a great year for the Kigers! Melissa

I just had a chance to watch this video yesterday, and Melissa, my hat is off to you! Sombra is clearly relaxed and responsive, and exhibiting nice suppleness and consistency in gait and contact. A joy to watch, a polished and well trained horse, even in a relatively new activity. Looking forward to seeing more inspirational videos from you.

Great video Melissa! I always enjoy see'ing your video's. Can I ask how you are cu'ing him? Pretty awesome to see all this from just the reins, or maybe some voice commands? I haven't watched a lot of lunge lines and long lines. Looks good! He looks like he's coming along for the world games this year.

Angel, There's voice, rein, body posture and probably other subtle cues I'm not really aware of yet, but they are there. Sometimes I just think a transition or maneuver and it comes from the horse, especially when riding. Not with all of my horses, but a few. This is something both Sombra and I have been working on for a short time and I have come to realize that he is actually the teacher and I am the student. He doesn't speak words, so I have to pay close attention to his subtle changes and adjust to them as he does the same with me. Like dancing. Are you staying warm in GA? It is freezing here! I'm waiting for spring. Melissa

It's amazing how much time you can spend with a horse and you 2 just learn one another. That is how you and Sombra are, your bond is great and you can sure see it. Horse's can pick up on the slightest body movement or posture - I never realized just how true this was until I got Maverick and saw how the slightest thing, he re-acted to. The same with my 2 girls. People just don't realize how sensitive horse's are and how smart Nope - not staying warm - it's dang cold and we're not used to this at all! And now they are calling for snow Thursday Which will be pretty but Im COLD!! and like you so ready for spring!!
