Bullet is a very dominant personality horse, he loves to push Firefly and Captain around. Yesterday he was being just downright nasty to them so I stepped in. He stood as though he was going to challenge me so I began to drive him. I ignored the other two horses in the square arena and they stood in one corner. I drove him at a gallop (focused on his hindquarters) two times around in one direction and two times around in the other direction not allowing him to pay attention to anything but me. Then I turned him twice at the end of the arena furthest from the other two and stopped him at the midpoint of the fence. He immediately turned his head and faced me, at which point I invited him in. He came in and stood next to me quietly with his head lowered to just above his shoulder height. He held a relaxed stance and after petting him and scratching all up and down his mane I released him to join the other two. For the rest of the time he was in there he made no attempt to drive or bite them, he just nuzzled and groomed with them.

That's great that you fixed it up! I am especially strick on that kind of stuff when people are around - all the pissy stuff stops! Sages' filly from this year had an episode like that. Sage is a real bossy mare, and I am careful when she has foals not to put her in situations where she is overly so because I don't want the foal to pick up on it. This summer I made the mistake of leaving the mares and foals out with the yearlings over night a few times...usually I feed them all seperately so we don't get attitudes thrown around while the foals are so impressionable. Well, when I weaned them, Nova came in and started to pick fights right away with the other foals. She got in BIG trouble the first time (I drove her around and whacked her on the rear-end a few times with the lead rope) and she never has done it again. In fact, if I catch her putting her ears back, I can "chhhhhht" at her and she knocks it off. Gotta catch that stuff right away!

Firefly gets that attitudy stuff going too and we're working on it. Bullet is by far the worst. He tries standing up to me here and there and it just gets him more work

The fellow on the off side and slightly behind is Bullet, the one on the near side and slightly ahead is Captain. Both are freezebranded mustangs. I don't know their origin and can't read their freezebrands very well even in summer.
