What do you guys do for your kids. do you buy a bit bigger than you measure to alow for growth or just cross you fingers. Dara

Measure and add a size up for growth. Hard to find blankets that are not "quarter horse" cut, which don't fit the spanish necks very well. The best ones I have found are from Schneiders in Ohio. Most have an adjustable neck so you can pull that chest part up and that also allows for growth and development. The ones cut for the saddlebreds and arabs seem to fit best in the neck and shoulder area. They are prices right too and have always lasted my horses many generations. www.sstack.com/index.jsp

What size is your yearling? I have several to sell. I find that the Schneider black liners under a waterproof sheet gives the best protection and can be used in warmer wet weather without the liner. The best sheet for the money, IMO, is the Dover Rider's Supreme Turnout Sheet. It has a wide range of adjustments in the chest and fits my Kigers well. As they grow you can let the chest out. However, they start at size 70 so that is a limitation. There is a one year warranty on the supreme TO and they've been really good about replacing the ones that have been torn.

she is about 64" I am also on the look out for a 74" TO blanket I really like the website above and some smokin prices. I see they have a 1 yr warenty on some blankets but you still have to send in a 30 dollar payment when you send in the blanket to get repaired or replaced... I dont know if that covers shipping too, so it seems a bit like a rip-off.

I don't remember if it is Schneider's or Stateline, but there is an adjustable blanket with velcro for the front. I used it on my Arab for 2 seasons. He learned how to get out of it though Ü I think it was under $100. I'd buy one again.

The ones at Dover you can call and they will ship the blanket right away if its under warranty. Then you send the old one back. I think they take your credit card in case you don't send it. I like the sheet a lot, especially the way it fits, but have had a couple tear and need replacing.

Dianne - what blankets do you have for sale? Was thinking of buying one for Bella since we are having extreme cold down here.

Mostly sheets as I like to put liners on under them. I have a 69 Taka sheet that fits more like a 72, how big do you need? It tends to be a little big in the shoulders. Dover's got their Rider's heavyweight supreme for $89 until 2/15. 1200 denier and 340 gms of fill. You will need the catalog number LA-2450A. Love the fit! Very adjustable through the chest. Tough 1 blankets are great and I believe I saw them on sale on the internet. The liner I like is at SSTACK - Schneider's tack. Its called the Adjusta-FitÆ Nylon Liner with V-Free Fit and is on sale for $37 with 170 grams of fill. So it would take two of them to keep a horse in REALLY cold temps, but you can layer 2 of them under a waterproof sheet and use just one in warmer weather or none in wet warm weather. They wick sweat off a horse really well to so they don't stay wet if they get overheated running around. Its a great training tool too as it has to go on over the head. The horses love them except for LadyRose and Tia.

Thanks Dianne! I'll check into them. I put a blanket on Bella the other day and it was funny. Im sure she must have remembered it from when she was a foal and you did it - the only thing she did was turn and sniff it many times and of course try to taste it - but no freak out or anything. I even shoo'd her off to make her lope around in it while I was there to make sure it would be fine, YEP, no problems!! I do love the minds on these horse's!! They make our jobs easier and make us look better

When its really cold mine will stand as still as a statue and let me put them on. Yep, Bella liked hers as a baby. Cedar wasn't crazy about the idea and I had to put them in the pen to get it done. She thought she was pretty special getting to wear it, it was cold and wet that summer. Usually I can just put them on in the pasture with no halter or anything.
