On Saturday, I hauled Lazzy and Rain to a new facility to get some arena work in. Lazzy and I were doing great, trotting at a slow, smooth pace doing a serpentine and as we came through the center she somehow got tripped up. She suddenly went down to her knees and in doing so I went forward rather quickly and my legs locked up--one with a bad muscle cramp that prevented me from easily re-balancing myself. Meanwhile, Lazzy was having trouble getting back up herself--probably because of me, I certainly wasn't in a position to help her so she was scrambling and falling back down. I patted her neck in a way that asked her to stay down, and she quieted and knelt there on her knees, allowing me to get sorted out, as soon as I had my seat secure again and balanced for her to get up. I asked her to try again and she did without trouble.
I was shaken up a little, and scared she'd hurt herself, so I dismounted and checked her out--she's fine. I just couldn't believe how amazing she was to wait there on her knees like that for me! She easily could've panicked and ditched me or dropped down further, rolling to her side and maybe crushing my leg. With the cramp, I don't think I could safely have dismounted her. I've had ACL repairs on both of my knees and have to be very careful--in fact just this episode kept me off my feet and under ice packs most of Sunday.
Anyway--just wanted to brag on my girl Lazzy and how great she was to take care of me like that! What an awesome friend and partner she is! ;D

WOW!!! I bet Lazzy has a forever and ever home. That is something money just can't buy...it's a gift! Common sense and a heart! It makes my day to read these awesome experiences.

These are the stories that convinced me to get into Kigers, always glad to hear another one. That she listened is so remarkable, and that you two understood each other so well that a pat was able to communicate what you needed is even more remarkable. Bet your heart was singing even if your knees were aching.
