Not sideways, though... ;D Katie wants to start jumping and we're in need of something trained to go over fences so that she can concentrate on getting herself into the right position. She's a confident rider, probably intermediate, and has spent her entire riding career (all 18 months of it) on green mustangs rather than something broke. She's got a soft hand and good feel. If you know of anything (mustang or not) up here in the soon to be wet Northwest, lemme know!

To bad you aren't near KY, but yet I have a great shipper. I have two Arabs that are jumping on their own and I am getting ready to start one over bigger jumps this week. He is going over 2s currently.

Heh...well, that's okay. While I like Arabs from a distance, they're not really meant for us. I really have to hand it to those of you who do well with the breed! Katie went and rode at an old acquaintance's facility today on Steve Holt!, and Barb really liked him. I told her I wanted to have Katie taking lessons and she immediately said, "Tuesday, Weds or Thursday?" I told her I'd heard she wasn't giving lessons anymore, and she said only to a select few. Woo Hoo! We're select! LOL. So tomorrow is a riding lesson for the two of them. Today was only her second ride on him (not counting a couple of five minute round pen rides), and first time in an arena (and one he wasn't used to, at that), so we were pretty happy that Barb liked what she saw. She said she'd have them go over some poles and evaluate how he handled that, and she didn't really see any reason for us getting a lease horse. Of course, Katie still believes she's going to improve so quickly that she'll leave Steve Holt! in the dust, therefore she needs the mare (I swear she was lame) who jumps 4' Barb did say she had some jumpers in the barn and could find us something if we really needed it, so that takes a huge load off, considering everything we've looked at so far has been lame or not the quiet, well mannered beast we'd been told

They took a lesson together this afternoon...Katie and Steve Holt!...and it went great! Barb really loves the way he moves, couldn't say enough nice things about him, thinks he's going to be a terrific jumper based on his stride and attitude. All they did was go over a ground pole, but she said it was enough to tell that Steve Holt! had the mind that would be easy to work with. She said she had a lesson horse Katie could ride so that she can learn the basics on a horse who knows what it's doing (the whole reason for a lease horse), and then she can climb on Steve Holt! afterward and ride a bit so she can start applying it the same day so she doesn't go home and forget ;D
But, oh! Today was scary when he hit a slick spot at the end of the arena (it's open at one end, and hadn't dried out after recent rain) and he fell down!!! Landed on her leg, and she was pinned until he got up. Hurt like the thingyens, still does, but she's okay.

Tell her to always keep her weight in the outside stirrup (don't lean into the corner) when going around a corner. It helps balance the horse. My horse and I were in a jumpoff once and came around a sharp corner. We had one fence left to jump. He went down on his side, but did not land on my leg, I stayed astride him and he got up, jumped the fence, and we won the class. I think that was the most exciting thing I have ever done in my life, ;D besides jumping 5 ft. on the same horse. I miss my jumping days sometimes. But then I think about all the hard work and long practices and I think, oh, well I'm too old. Tell Katie to hand in there, if she's already got the bug for jumping she could go a long way. And on a mustang Too. That was my goal for a long time. Maybe someday. It's never too late, I guess. I love the way Steve HOlt! moves too, and I would love to see hime JUmp!

LOL on the naughty word changer here...thingyens? What about Charles thingyens? ;D
She made a video of her lesson, minus the falling part (gee, mom, why didn't you get that on video?) It's on my blog today. It's been fun to watch him with someone else in the saddle.

Sense Michelle is the administrator of the board can go back and remove the D ick word as naughty word or set it to only block it if used by itself. It is is funny I recently opened up my own proboard for my local riding club and had to list censored words and replace them with a differant word..I admit I had a little fun with it

Yeah, I had to switch a few of the words on the mustang forum as well
