Last year after being accepted to the Mustang Challenge in Sacramento, I received an email from one of the competitors asking some basic information on what she could expect when picking up her horse...could she have a halter on it? How would they load it? All the stuff we all wonder the first time.
We began conversing and I asked her all the questions I always do when I speak to a new adoptee, and found out she has quite the background in the Quarter horse world, including making it into the top ten finals in three different events at the AQHA World Show over the past several years. Now, that's quite an accomplishment, considering this is the world's largest breed registry. It's not like making the worlds in Appaloosa or Arab...it's like combining all your top breeds and rolling them into one. More horses, stiffer competition (some may not like to hear that, but it's the dog gone truth.)
So Saunya and I would email off and on, checking in on each other throughout the training phase, and when we got there we managed to get ourselves stalled next to each other. She hails from Reno, NV, and I think she hauled Ildivo to the big mustang show there this year, just for exposure.
Anyway, she had a mare named Diva in Sacramento (she and her friends call themselves the Divas), and after the event we continued to stay in touch. She said at one point that this mustang stuff was so nice...none of the stiff competitiveness you see at breed shows, everyone in it for the horse and to help one another. A real spirit of community.
She got talked into doing the TX makeover this year, and her gelding Ildivo is beautiful! You can see her blog here: www.renosmustangdiva.blogspot.com/ I got an email this morning saying they were in TX as of last night. I'm wishing her well and hope Ildivo (means Movie Star) performs his heart out for her!
Oh...and you've got to visit that blog and scroll down to the rummage sale, lol!
